i dunno if this has been discussed b4, but i couldnt find anything searching...

when im driving, every now and then my brake light (not park brake) will come on, and so will the battery light... it does very randomly, and for varied lengths of time, the only issue that brings about, is at night time, the lights on the dash will dim, and so will my head lights.... I kno for a fact its not the battery itself, cause ive had the stereo going for hours on end, and the car winds over within the first 3 secs of trying to start.

someone told me that the prob might be a bad earth, cause it only happens when the car is on. but could it also be the alternater?? the only time i have noticed when the lights will come on is when i give the old girl a boot full, and then back off, the lights come on......... :o ??? :-\

it is most proberly your alternator, mine was doin the same until i replaced the brushers in it, when your lights dim rase the revs and it should get brighter if your alternator is slightly working, also try putting getting a reading of how many amp/volts the alternator is putting out

1st check the cable from alternator to battery, it has been known to corrode badly.

doesn't sound like the regulator... when mine died, the voltage would spike with revs - i.e at idle volts were fine, anything above 2k RPM and it'd spike up to about 18 volts.
