Tidying up your engine bay

i had a week off work for holidays, and i got stuck into tidying up my engine bay
heres a shot taken before


first step was degreasing it. i went and bought a $5 can of degreaser and cleaned it up a shitload
then i painted my rocker cover, theres a writeup of how i did it in the tech section.
and as everyone knows, once you start painting you just cant stop, so i attacked the throttle body with the same paint.

now an after shot


some simple work put into your engine bay can make it look a lot less nicer (and everyone knows red goes faster)

Looks good :) I wouldn't mind seeing the whole throttle body being red though (matching the rocker cover) .. and that rusty exhaust manifold heatshield. Otherwise :)

I reckon it looks awesome.  Dude seriously Milfo, your engine bay was clean as a whistle to start with.  I'll try a before and after shot on mine and it still won't look half as clean as yours after its done. 

How good is that degreaser stuff tho  8)

PSSSSST....its the cleanest U12 engine bay i've seen!

its going over the top edge of the pod box, probs to cover a sharp edge so when working on car u dont cut urself to shit house.....

Yeh I'm positive its to block off any holes off to let hot air into that sealed area.  Same as what i have on mine! 

My engine bay is a mess.  *pulls finger out of arse - still dirty*  ;)

its there to make a good seal with the roof
the ally was cut to about 10 mm below the bonnet (fucking hard with the curve and the cross braces)
so i cut up a bit of hose and stuck it on there with some cone i had lying round.

looks stupid, but works well until i get a CAI

another easy way is to take off the top radiator brackets (right up top) and air con hose brackets also up top next to the radiator brackets take them off remove all rubber parts dont worry they go easily back on just be careful not to crack them rip out whats left of a paint you have used on your rocker cover or other engine bay parts and give them a spray put them back on and theres a little more colour in the funeral home engine bay just be careful to let them dry because the finger print effect isnt in this year  :P i used silver jus to brighten more then match and its not in your face if you really want to go to town buy some braided hose sleeves as these dress up the engine bay nicely do vacume and top radiator hose and it comes up shmick

I know how you got the red colour on the rocker cover, but how did u intricately paint the white bits.
 on the 'ECCS' and the '2400'

???

Is it white, or 'brushed' aluminium?

If it is white, he probably did an undercoat of white, sprayed the red on and then while it was still wet, wiped it off the top bits with a rag.

it better! It took bloody ages to sand it up and polish it all. I tell you what, there are easier rocker covers to re-do than ours!

I still think that my rocker cover has to be up there with Chadza's!

still a couple of spots tht need to be perfected, but overall quite nice atm


i see all these rocker covers with fancy paint jobs, but i have to say i think the nice sand n polish is the best : ;)

i sprayed the whole lot, then sanded the raised parts back to the metal.
if you do the eccs, make sure you put a sheet or something over everything in your engine bay, because a fine mist goes everywhere, it got on my windscreen

I was going to do the inlet manfold too, but seeing how long the rocker cover took, screw that.
