BMW headlight conversion
« on: Nov 15, 2002, 10:46PM »
For anyone wondering what the headlights alone are worth (3 series E36 chassis, about `93-`94) i priced them earlier at a BMW wrecker in Dandenong at $330 EACH!

That was only one wrecker i rang while looking for something else in the Yellow pages, i'm sure there's cheaper around. I think our normal headlights are about $150 each.
One thing you have to remember is the BMW h/lights are HID, ours aren't.
I'd like to do the conversion myself, after i've got a fair bit more power though.

Yeah that does look quite nice doesn't it?  :D

Hmmm.. I think I'll keep the stock pintara lights from the front though personally.

From the side quarter it looks awesome.

yeah the standard grille doesn't fit after you put the lights in the guys in the states were saying something about a maxima grill from the same year as our cars would fit (I was very keen to do this mod and still am if i can find cheap enough headlights) although from everything i've read you can put the turning lights back in after so i don't know why they've been left out

HEHE, how funny is that GTR badge.  Im sure there are other badges you could put on your car.  I'm gunna put the "SPEC S" badge from the new 200SX / Silvia above my side indicator just to be different.  Just gotta find one round and at the rite price

Cool lights, getting those custom indicators to fill the gaps could be annoying

ahhh i dont know about that! if u wanna badge get the 2.0 (2L) badge from a pulsar or something. Just to let people know they are getting beaten not even by the 2.4L pinny  ;)

guys, one thing that these genius americans havent told us is that the bmw lights dont line up properly with the panels. you noticed how all the pictures you see are front on? sudesh emailed me a while back and said "i've been told that there is a small section at the base that leaves a gap, but its apparently un-noticable"

i was looking up some info on it today, and check out the "un-noticable" gap!

un-noticable my arse  :o i very much doubt i'll ever do the swap now.

i think that shaunk was telling me that an average 2nd hand pair would set you back $700 for the verada lights

Brand new you would be looking at 1k

Second hand $600-$700, depending if they are the one piece glass ones (KE, KF, KH Verada), or the two piece plastic ones (KJ Verada)

I was looking to put some on my Magna, but the cost didn't justify it.

and the Magna is for sale now anyway. :(

anyone want to buy it?
