Good price for new tires on a trx?
« on: Jan 20, 2004, 10:25PM »
i've got a pintara T, but i recently purchased the trx alloy rims of SIR_TRX and i've been looking at prices for brand new tires for these rims.

I have been quoted for $79 per wheel fitted for some pretty decent wheels, does this price seem decent to you guys? Are there any tires you'd recommend over others? Places you'd recommend (in brisbane)

Cheers

that souds like a damn good price!

In general with tyres go for a brand you have heard of before, I think it was beefy who got no-name tyres and they went bad very very quickly.

Oh and don't believe the salesman if he says "oh I have these no-name tyres on MY car! They are great!"...cause he is lying out his rear-end.

i went to 4 different places on monday and the best quote i got was $85/each they were $89 but he brought it down, simex sm800 or something they were 195/65 R14, and then they said they would do the w/a for $30 instead of $38.50, so thats $200 just for 2 front tyres.....but they are pretty good tyres i think.

FYI simex is a well knows 4WDing tire that is trying to brake into the passenger car market (if ya didn’t know)

I had a set on my 82 Subaru and was fairly happy with them, did ware a bit quicker that I would have liked though.

I used to have two Kumho tyres on my Corsair before I got my rims.  They are on urqs car at the moment.

Another mate has a set of four on his magna and they have served him well.  Pretty cheap too, around $80- $90 a tyre.

I dont mean to ruin the party or anything, but I had a set of simex tyres on my car, and they were the shittest pieces of crap I have ever bought. Crap in the wet. Veyr crap.

I had 205/15/55's on my wheels.

Currently I have goodyear eagle f1's. Awesome tyre, but you pay for it.

Retail anywhere between $195-$210 per corner.
I got them at a good price, paid cash, and the deal at the time was buy 3, get one for free!!! Plus wheel balancing, 4 wheel alignment, cash talking I paid $600 all up.

So im not complaining.

With most things (but not all) you get what you pay for. And after the simex tyres, I aint buying cheap stuff anymore.

i've had simex on my trx before & they were pretty good, they were on the car when i bought it. definately better than the last lot of tyres i've had which were riken's

i bought these riken tyres last time for the trx (on the stock alloys) they were to only tyres available in the correct size & i was desperate to get tyres that day & there were no other stores for miles around.. so i bit the bullet & bought them at $110 a tyre.. excellent tread pattern, great in wet & dry, quite grippy, but the walls of the tyres rippled and bubbled. absolutely shithouse. dangerous stuff.

i now have falkens, no coplaints so far.. not cheap falkens either, they're worth about $320 each.

pirelli's come at a price some ppl aren't willing to pay man... i know i would go pirelli's or another reputable tyre e.g Michelin, Bridgestone etc...

In my opinoin its not worth saving a few dollars for the small patches of rubber that keep our cars on the road rather than wrapped around a telegraph pole.....

i think simex is the brand that beefy_trx had trouble with. got a bubble in them or something.

unless they were sime tyres.. they are also sh*thouse.. i have them on the front of my car and while they are ok(just) in the dry, they are crap in the wet, and they squeel like crazy in the dry  going round corners when other tyres wouldnt, and at high speeds travelling round sweeping bends the car slides a little at the front, so i don't reccomend them. they were fairly new when i got the car so im not going to replace them for awhile unless they get considerably worse, on the back i have bridgestone RE92's which i highly reccomend. ( they sell fitted for betweeen $95 and $110)  i dont like having different tyres on the front to the back, but they are the same size all round so its not really worth worrying about to they wear down.

what do you guys think about me putting my bridgestones on the front and the simes on the back, to get better grip in the wet on the driving wheels??
