Alarm system
« on: Apr 7, 2009, 01:47AM »
hey guys, i've been forgetting to ask this, but my trx doesnt have an alarm system.
just wondering how much would it cost for a new alarm and does it have to be a certain type?

is there like a U12 alarm system or can anything just be put in

Any alarm will work.
Best to get a brand name one with an immobilizer. Don't waste your time on the cheap ebay stuff, false alarms, gets kinda annoying.

Your looking at anywhere from $80 to about $300 for a decent one. black widow is good I hear.
nothing.

I have black widow... its strathfield brand.  Hasnt failed me yet, and was easy to install, however I wanted to change frequency and get replacement remote, but can't get them easily, and they arent reprogramable (ie. you find your alarm also opens your garage door, you cant change it)  Most other brands are reprogrammable and hence much easier to get replacement remote (incase one is lost or stolen) or avoid frequency conflicts.

I wouldnt get black widow is fine, but wouldnt get again, go to a proper car stereo place and ask them.

I'd also like to say... AMMI insurance told me u12 have immobiliser as standard??? WTF???

U12s don't have any sort of factory fitted immobiliser, optional or otherwise.

Black widow is quite a good brand. I'd say your garage door issue is more related to the door rather than the alarm because the garage door isn't filtering out the car remote which it should. Remote coding happens in the receiver, not the remote.

Other decent brands are Cyclops, Mongoose and Autowatch.

If it helps I had a cyclops immobilser, never played up and I could have wired a full alarm into it. Only problem I had was getting new remotes when one of mine broke, it was going to take 6 weeks to get them in, and then they had to be programmed, only an issue if you don't mind waiting. I bought new remotes of a member i wa (rathies I think) and used another members login for the cyclops site to programme them.

I used to have a fusion car alarm, had everything i needed until i wanted boot sensor, and the fusion sensor for the boot just wasnt worth it... but other than that, it was perfectly fine. even worked when someone tried to steal both my wheels once, and my car another time lol.

now ive changed to a different brand, and quiet frankly, it was more expensive, but doing exactly what the fusion one did. obviously i dont have any fancy features like remote start (which i believe is stupid anyway) etc..

and my black widow central locking motors rods etc etc are still working fine to this day! never had a problem with them.

edit: RHINO alarms are a pain too, they work extremely good, but replacement remotes are basically more expensive than an alarm itself, and their buttons seem to always mess up too..
