Please help me - transmission problem
« on: Feb 21, 2008, 01:24PM »
I got a Nissan Pintara TRX 1990, Auto, 2.4L, KA24E, 243,296kms, stock - everything, all original.

I've had a transmission problem ever since I bought the car about 15 months ago,
whenever I accelerate a bit harder off the lights, when shifting between gears 2 and 3 the transmission doesn't change properly but instead revs out to about 3000rpm slipping into a neutral mode where I have no drive at all. Only when I take my foot off the accelerator and the rpm comes back to around 2400 will it then kind of jerk into 3rd and resume drive. It doesn't really happen so much when not accelerating hard. It  can be quite a pain when traffic is banked up behind and I'm holding up the works while my rpm comes down.

Wondering if anyone can help tell me what I might have to do to fix eg. do i need new transmission?

Have you had the transmission serviced ? Try that before a rebuild.
Your car may be able to go faster.
But I can go any where. except into a garage, underground carpark, bridge...

2 sticks and manual locking hubs. have to get out to drive it around
Good old Nissan.

KA's are the shit. According to all the info on the site, they are better then sliced bread and thats saying something.

When my auto was serviced they said u12's have a habbit of chewing the the torque converter splines to pieces. Maybe your problem lies there ?.
Definately get it serviced, make sure they change the filter and adjust the bands though. Some places only drain the fluid and replace it. It should cost roughly $130, if you are charged less than $100 I would be sceptical as to whether it was serviced or just the fluid replaced. (this is just from my personal experience though).

I have another theory but I don't know how to explain it, I will think about to write it or pass it on to another member who will be able to put it into something understandable.
