leaking Coolant @ Waterpump

Hey Guys and Girls, i have made a camio appearance well not really as im now finished uni and have a fair bit of free time on my hands so i shall be back.

Although, a little problem with the old faithful TRX of mine.

im pritty sure im leaking coolant at the waterpump or somewhere else due to a small leak in one of the hoses.

anyway been reading the user manual and have noticed that if the timing belt is broken it may cause coolant leakage at the water pump. Although, doesnt the U12 TRX have a timing chain? or is it just the CAE20 part of the user guide refereing to the ford having a belt?

In Addition,if that chain was broken wouldnt it have taken out other parts of the engine like valves etc? Therefore, if the chain were broken in a certain part wouldnt the linkages would be gone and the chain unable to rotate properly? I also read that if oil coolant or water is stuck to the belt it can cause coolant leakage at water pump.

so why does this actually make the water pump leak coolant? and what is the best way to check these things out? how do i acess the timing chain to check this stuff?

MISREAD - basically this applies to ca20e, - if you have a leak AND coolant (or  oil)gets onto the RUBBER timing belt - it is BAD for the belt, and may lead to PREMATURE FAILURE, ie. belt BREAKS. and all the associated problems.

any OHC car will not run if timing belt or chain is broken, with nissans interference engines you also get valve/piston damage - ie they hit.

a water pump leaks coolant because its gasket OR bearing is going,gone.

plus there are those pita hoses under the manifold that could be the cause of the leak. or any other part of the coolant system in the area. (eg in ca20 radiator top hose, thermostat housing, intake manifold etc). unfortunaltely around this age all these hoses/connectors start failing!

that was my initial though that it may be those pita hoses under the manifold because after a drive when i shut down the car i can hear (what i have figured) the coolant dripping onto the hot manifold and making a sizzling sound which ultimatley is making the engine bay smell like coolant.

ill have a look in the user manual to see where these hoses are behing the manifold, if i cant find it i may just have to ask you where they are
