Is it noisy, if it is then yes.
If it is not noisy then it is up to you. How many kays has it got. If more than 200 000 then I would replace it.

My car had 250,00+  and started to get noisy about three months before the rebuild.

I have heard of timing chains lasting up and going further than 300,000kms.

To add to this, the chain in my TRX has never been touched.  Car has a touch over 240,000km on the dial.

It rattles for 1-2 seconds on cold start, then totally goes away (to be replaced by the sound of an exhaust leak ::))

I will be replacing it and the tensioner soon anyway, for piece of mind and because the car will have to soldier on past the 300,000km mark.
dont piss me off with your pillarless shit captain snappy wrist

You're a mechanic, you should know if it needs replacing as of the following symptoms..

- stretched and sagging allowing play (rattling)
- jumping teeth on the cam gear
- etc

Just replace it as a safety measure although chains do last a long time if taken care of.
Don't let the opinions of the average man sway you. Dream, and he thinks you're crazy. Succeed, and he thinks you're lucky. Acquire wealth, and he thinks you're greedy. Pay no attention. He simply doesn't understand.

to be fair, it wouldn't be ANTRX if we stayed on topic.

and if someone wasn't cranky at Chr1s for something he said...

I know of a TB42E powered GQ Patrol with 500,000km's which has not been touched. Only things replaced are bushes in suspension, radiator, water pump, radiator fan. Still original chain.

My old grey TRX still has the original chain and its got about 290,000km's on the motor now.

All comes down to maintenance.
Your car may be able to go faster.
But I can go any where. except into a garage, underground carpark, bridge...

2 sticks and manual locking hubs. have to get out to drive it around
Good old Nissan.

KA's are the shit. According to all the info on the site, they are better then sliced bread and thats saying something.
