hai...
i own a pintara ti (ka24e) 1991 auto my car has overheating issues when stopped at signals.my oil light flickers as soon i start my engine even though i have changed my engine oil just a week back.my mileage is about 350 for tank. i dont know why iam getting so low mileage? i have a feeling i have to change the coolant temp sensors...so wher is the best place to buy a new one??? any help would be welcome ...thanx in advance..

I had a problem like this not too long ago myself in the TRX...well actually I still have it but I needed to spend money on stupid things, like food, instead of my car for a while.

I won't pretend to know the answer to your oil problem, however 350km is a bit low for a tank of our size. In an attempt to track down the problem I bought an 02 sensor from Repco for $60.99 (paid with Eftpos because there was no way they were getting $61.00 out of me) and I bought a coolant temperature sensor from Autobarn for $25 on the dot. Initially one of the employees said $90 but if they say that, tell them to keep looking. All up it made absolutely no difference to my car, but in your case it may.

With your oil light flickering I think I may know why.

When my engine was rebuilt at the start of the year the light still flickered. The engine shop had my car for two days to locate the problem no matter what it cost. It turned out that it was the oil pressure switch (located beside oil filter). I have found out at great expense that aftermarket sensors are ill calibrated. Now I only use genuine nissan sensors even if the sensor cost $50 aftermarket and $100 genuine. Anyway the sensor costs $20 trade from Nissan. Was installed and the problem dissapeared. I would try this as it is fairly inexpensive.

As for your other Problems I have to agree with Budgie,

water pump. shat itself on both my trx's. very common problem as the car gets to this age. turn your heater on and rev the engine to about 3000, if the air gets warmer then thats your problem.

thanx for the reply, i bought a oil pressure switch for light from repco for $7 and bought a thermostat for $43... i tried to locate the oil pressure switch but couldn`t....and please any ideas on how to change the thermostat..pleez excuse for these silly questions as iam a rookie when it comes to cars.

I'd reccomend you get a copy of the service manual. Should find a plethora of useful information in it.

Thermostat is not a hard task just 3 bolts.

i will try to install new thermostat tomorrow and post if it fixed my overheating problems....but i still didnt get the oil pressure switch??

If its standard sensor for the oil may need to clean the contacts.

when i bought this car i had these problems,(pintara ti 2.4ltr auto)

problem 1) fuel injectors leaking externally,(awful smell inside the car and outside..i almost choked)

problem 2) car overheating when stopped at lights,(was scared to idle the car)

problem 3) brakes were squealing when braked softly,(i started breaking hard and my head thumped)

problem 4) cigarette lighter socket wasnt working,(i couldnt connect my gps,mp3 player and mobile phone charger)

problem 5) oil light flickering when accelerated and the oil pressure guage dead,( got distracted at night by the oil light flickering in front of my face..almost hit a kerb and lost control)

problem 6) last but not the least got 350 kms for a full tank,( dug a deep hole in my pocket)
...

solutions for these problems except one which i would be grateful if anybody solved it,
((the cost doesnt include labour as it was done by myself and all the parts replaced are brand new parts))
total cost to solve all these problems=$812

solution 1) changed the fuel injectors all 4 of them,changed fuel filter. :Dcost $560

solution 2) changed thermostat, coolant temperature sensor,flushed radiator and added new coolant.

cost $120

solution 3) changed brake pads. :Dcost $80.

solution 4) changed the fuse. :Dcost ??(that one i got for free)

solution 5) changed oil pressure switch,air filter,oil filter,oil. :Dcost $52.

solution 6) after solving all these problems the car is running like new with no problems...so i thought i would get the optimum mileage but havent ,the car is still returning the same mileage 350kms for a full tank.
i have almost given up to find the solution for problem 6 after all the things i have done. any discussion on problem 6

even i suspected o2 sensor and exhaust leak.....but the car is not running rich(typical symptom for an o2 sensor) and i checked the exhaust thrice and found no leaks.

Do you smell fuel at all? Could be leaky injectors aswell which would cause it. Does it have trouble starting once its been off for a while?

Do you have a standard manifold? Im not 100% sure where it would be as ive always had extractors, in which its located on the left hand side of the extractors about half way down.

it had leaky injectors but i swapped them for brand new ones,i also changed coolant sensor,thermostat,air filter,fuel filter,oil filter,flushed the radiator,added new coolant.
i cant smell petrol,there is no problem in starting the car.

the car idles at 700 rpm when on drive mode and idles at 900 rpm when on parking mode.when i take the foot of accelerator ,it decelerates like something is pushing it back.when in cold the car idles a bit roughly but not that bad to worry about. when in reverse the car is a bit rough.

i have checked the exhaust its a bit rusty but no leaks.

The pads are not dragging excessivley on the rotors are they?

i don't see how that can entirely work; if he started the car when it was cold, the exhaust would be cold, therefore causing water build-up from condensation and it will combine with the carbon build up in the exhaust, thus spitting black droplets out.

i feel the rear pads are brushing against the rotor..is this the reason for low fuel economy??

i havent seen a single amount of black smoke maybe a bit of white smoke when cold..that too negligible smoke.

The slide pins on your brake calipers can seize up and drag on the rotors. Check those out.

as mentioned above in the post i have changed many parts still iam mileage has gone below 250 kms a tank. will replacing o2 sensor help drastic improvement in mileage???
