Re-drilling wheel PCD to fit?

For the past few months i've been looking for some sexy 17" wheels, preferably with a bit of dish.  However there arent any around that i'm liking without importing.

After reading some forums I ran across talk of re-drilling the offsets for wheels to make them multifit.  ie. set of 4x100 drilled to 4x114.3.
I was wondering about the legalities of this, common sence says it cant be leagal.  But it it possible to get a proper engineer to do this (possibly even fill the old holes) and have it leagal?

Have you thought about multi fit style wheels. They look allright with the extra holes and you can change them onto a another car if you ever got a new/newer car.
    As for redrilling the holes, I imagine you would have to weld and redrill the holes as some wheels have gaps on the back and if you drilled into this you might affect the strength of the wheels.

As for the legality of this, After doing some research,
   If you got an engineer to do this with a cad machine and a cnc drill so all the holes are the same I can't find anything that says it is illegal

it depends on the wheel, if you turned it 45 degrees is there steel there to drill into? also you would need an engineer to be able to get it dead centre, as for filling the holes they would have to be awesome rims to be worthwhile.

Don't mean to be a nit-picking bastard but aren't you talking about the sud pattern or PCD? I thought offset was different?

Anyways I am pretty sure you can get it done, however I don't know about the legality...

you can get it done...

they plug up the original holes bar one and redril them.

legalities ? who the hell is going to notice ?

oh shit yeah i meant PCD rather than offset.  I was just asking about this as i swear i've seen wheels with redriled holes on ebay, some of which had the holes overlapping if that makes sence.

Its just really hard to find some 17" deep dish rims with a 4 x 114.3 stud pattern to suit u12.  I'm thinking something a bit fatter too... maybe 8" or just with minimal + offset (so they will stick out a bit)

I know of some wide dished rims. But they are very expensive. Work Meisters, they have dish, you can get them in 4 x 114.3 if you look enough, widths between 7" and 10" wide and offsets ranging from +20 to -10 if i remember correctly.

BUT you are looking at $3000-$4000 for a set of second hand rims with new tyres. If you have that cash to blow....look around on nissansilvia.com.

Cheaper to find dish rims and redrill though

find the wheel that you want..

ask the place you are going to get it from for them to get you a blank set (no holes in the hub section) and then take it to a wheel dude and get him to drill you your holes.

Yeah, there are speacilist workshops around that just deal with wheel repairs etc. They would be the people to talk to with regard to re-drilling a set of wheels for a different stud pattern. 'Adelaide wheel and Rim' is one place in Adelaide that does that sort of stuff.
They can definately do it, but it just depends on the style of wheel as to whether or not it's possible.
