Speedo Issues
« on: Mar 21, 2007, 09:48PM »
It was just bought to my attention by my mate that my speedo is inaccurate when I'm reading 100km/h my GPS reads 90km/h. When I'm reading 80km/h the GPS says I'm doing 75km/h.

I've changed speedo gears for the odometer recently, but from what i saw the speedo is electrical not mechanical. i didn't cut or bump anything while i was tinkering away.

Does anyone know how i can fix this problem or what went wrong??

My GPS unit doesnt show the speed im doing correctly either.

Although my speedo is fairly close to being correct as i had my bro in his stock civic and mum in her stock lantra travelling next to and infront of me at both 60 and 100 just to test speedo. It was fine but GPS was still out.

GPS will normally be inaccurate..unless it has alot of satellites to take it's bearings from..

It also depends how good the unit is and weather conditions..

If it's not your gps, what size wheels do you have ?

all GPS' that are publically available are innaccurate to a certain point,  the better their quality the more accurate they'll be though.

i'd say the speedo is fine and the problem lies with the GPS. there is a more acurate gps system that only prviliged (army etc.) people have access too. the one you're using is the 'general public' version which is pretty accurate but with a couple of downfalls, delays and inaccuracies to be more precise.

ok, but how do you explain why my speedo disagrees with a 100 series landcruiser and an EL falcon??

I use my HP pocket PC as a GPS with TOMTOM installed in it and i got a enternal Bluetooth GPS module for satellite reception. My GPS always shows the correct Speed i.e it matches with the speed displayed in the dash.
