wierd whistle ?

OK so i ve had my pinny T for bout 4 months now and i ve noticed that at around 2000 rpm it makes this weird whistling noise. if i rev it in neutral it ll only make the noise as it goes past 2 and as it comes back down at 2 but if you drive holding it on 2 it just whistles along like a canary. its really really annoying anybody got any ideas what the problem is i was listening and sounds like its coming from the distributor. help?

My guess it is a leak. If it is running like crap, it could be intake.
Check all the hoses, not coolent hoses.

If we could hear it, it would make it easier to diagnose.

If you rest you foot on the clutch (just slightly pressing down on it) does the noise go away?

checked for leaks and couldnt see any and isn t running too bad so i dunno. The noise doesnt go away if i put me foot lightly on the clutch. but i never thought of that so thanks for the advice JIMBO. Another mate of mine said it sounded like something under the rocker cover so im still not sure.

my car used to make a distinct whistling sound when the timing chain was old n fucked, its really really annoying, but if i heard it again i could tell you for sure, coz the sound it makes is unlike any other.
is there any way to post a sound file up in here?? if so you could record the sound n the post it up, that would work for diagnosis sound for us. Better yet, if you can just do a vid wif ya phone n then chuck it on ur computer, and then photobucket and then here... and then, and then, and then... and then!! lol

could be the chain or idlers or whatever is in there. my dad's rav4 had a similar problem and his idler was on the way out.

sounded like a supercharger :P

ok ill take a video on my phone and put it up sometime over the weekend bit busy cos at the clipsal saturday and working sunday but will try. and get it up asap.

i have this problem also, but my whistle continues past 2g of revs im going to try and get video and sound also.

If you are refering to when you put the foot to the floor and wind second gear out to 90 and you can hear a whisteling sound. I get it to. I have put it down to be coming from the breather on the gearbox.

Ok so i took a video with the sound but now cant find me cord that connects the phone to the computer. argh! might try my digital camera
