How to determine if gearbox has VLSD?

okay... so i was just wondering what is the easiest way to find out if my gear box has a VLSD (front wheels)

i guess i could go and find a sand pit and let rip... while getting a mate to look on but i figured there must be some easier way. (gearbox number etc.)

Also i read somewhere that the gearbox housings are different sizes, could anyone tell me the dimensions for a VLSD vs none?

Car is a HNU13.

putting it in a sandpit wouldn't do anything because its lower resistance all round, same as wet lawn. I would suggest revving it up in neutral and slamming it to drive but that would be irresponsible of me.

if it has an LSD of any sort it usually has a sticker in the engine bay somewhere and/or in the glove box inside the car

Does the gearbox code end with an A or a V?  A is open front diff, V is LSD.

Cheers budgie, VLSD it is    (i knew this is how you did it for the ka24, but didn't know it extended to the u13's - and i assume other nissans as well)


i still might take it to somewhere like the mole just to see if it's still in working order after 13 years

i'm pretty sure that all u13's have lsd.

I'm yet to see a series II without a front LSD Jello.

Well, according to the nissan brochure all SR20DET HNU13's came with the front LSD, it was not optional.

and how do check if you lsd is fubar? is there any aftermarket lsds for the hnu13?

I think a GTiR nismo front LSD bolts in mate.  They has been talk of it on the GTiR oz forums.
