HELP ME,
My 2.4ltr Corsair has a high rate of fuel consumption.
I have had the O2 censor replaced and the injectors were serviced and new seals 10 months ago. I used to get about 2 weeks to a tank of fuel with a mix of highway and suburban driving. Now I get a week if I'm lucky. In 3 trips to blacktown from Penrith I have used about 1/2 tank of fuel. If this helps the car is runing rich and blows white/grey smoke and spits black stuff all over my rear bumper and anything that is behind my car when I start it.

Have you checked the ECU for errors? probably something there

check the tech section for how to do it and what they mean.

your first port of call is to check your coolant temp sensor

I echo what Noss said.

I had the same problem of a very sooty bumper. Replaced the ECU coolant temp sensor and its clean as a whistle now.

If you leave it long enough your car won't start because it will think its hot when it is stone cold. Which is what is causing your soot issues, the ECU is getting an incorrect temperature from the sensor and so is adjusting the mixtures wrongly.

If it is the temp sensor, wouldnt the guage in the dash give crazy figures. (ie. not heating up) and hence ECU would stay in choke mode which is rich.

There's 2 seperate temp sensors

One for the guage and one for the ecu.

If you did a search - you'd find heaps , lots to wade thru...but!

temp sensors for ecu
(easy to check with mutimeter (but probably not the prob)

do your revs fluctuate really badly - if yes check your connectors to cas or cas

also check the diaphram on you fuel pressure regulator is not ruptured - pumping fuel straight into the plenum.

if it's not 1 of the above - search and read, codes!? .....have fun

What is the average tank range for our U12 2.4ltr 5spd manual pets. Kms please as a 5 days to 2 weeks answer doesn't really say much to me.

Usually around 450-650km depending on the car and driving style.

even "average tank range" means nothing because you are never going to run your tank dry every time.

In the city a ka24e U12 should be getting 9-11L/100km

I get an average of 10-11L to 100km with city/highway driving with giving it alittle squirt every now and then. Check the Engine temp senser and replace it (costs less than $50) its what was wrong with mine. Go see an auto electricion

I knew this thread might come in handy again.

I have been getting around with my new fuel pump installed for nearly 2 months now. The pump is fine, where the problem lies is, since the pump has been in the fuel gauge never shows the same reading twice. Yes, I know a car uses fuel but, When I turn car off the gauge will read a full tank, I let it sit for say 1 hr, when I turn on it will read just above 3/4tr, turn off again, let it sit, turn back on and it will read full tank.
The gauge was fine with the old fuel pump, but not so fine with the new one. One idea I had was the arm with the float on the end might be bent but care was taken when pump was removed/installed. Would it be easier to replace this arm with a new one or try to straighten the possibly bent one.

Coolent temp sensor harness can also get dodgy, $15 for the new plug.

I'd say it's the level sender that's worn out. Replacing the pump probably disturbed it just enough to make it play up.

Off the top of my head: nissan, autobarn, repco, coventry auto parts should all have them.

Nissan tells me the item is deleted in their system,
repco couldn't confirm which sender unit their supplier (tridon)has(either ecu or gauge)
coventry wanted $27+$16 freight.
Have yet to check with autobarn

I got a Tridon branded sender from Coventry for about $17 trade price.

All the codes read fine, if a sensor is on it's last legs but still working will it still read sensor is ok. Where is coolant sensor located

From what I saw, they are near the master cylinder to the right. One is a black small plug and the other one just near it
is a bigger one with a reg plug on it.

If you have the downloaded manual go to page EL-72 for the KA24 engine.
It shows the plugs 52G( guessing it reads back to the ecu) and 22G (guessing it goes to the guage).
When the car is warm leave it idiling and undo the plugs (one at a time) and check the temp guage to see which plug is for the guage. The bigger plug has a special clip on it so be careful not to break it!

little black plug is for the guage, big red is for the ECU

try contact cleaner on the plug for the water temp sensor is my suggestion. I've had to do it lately due to red dust pouring out of everywhere from paddock bashing. Maybe you could try contact cleaner as a short term fix while you order the right replacement.
