think the auto is stuffed.
« on: Mar 24, 2006, 10:38AM »
just by chance i think my auto is stuffed. it seems to rev out in one gear under hard acceleration. i suspect this means its slipping.

now ive got the choice to rebuild the transmission or get the manual conversion.

if i do end up getting the manual conversion.. do you have to get a manual trans out of another Attessa ?? at what cost too$$$

will the manual trans work out better / cheaper in the long run.

You will regret putting another auto into the car.

However, swapping for another auto box will be much cheaper than rebuilding your current box.

My auto gave out, cost me $1680 total in the end too swap it for a 2nd box with 50,000km on it.

I currently have a manual box, and all parts for a manual conversion ready to go.  This stuff has cost me $700.

Maybe a manual out of a GTiR might work on the Atessa.

A nissan wrecker here in Dandenong has an Attesa auto box ready to go straight from a front cut.  Also there is a guy in the States who supplies new parts for the austo at very good prices

the gtir box will fit but all the rest of the gear, ie: lines and shifter components, wont fit, looked at that option along time ago....

do the conversion, might coz a little more now, but will pay off in the long run

just thinking of it i remembered Just Jap in NSW has a u13 SSS atessa front cut going for $2500 in manual.

supposing i got the driveline parts and gastank etc of a atessa would it be able to be put into a normal u13? or is there things that set them apart that cant be transfered across?

If you want to ask this question, make a new thread mate.

Also, that would be stupid as the chassis very differant at the back!  It would be better to buy an auto HNU13 thats a bit rough, maybe with a busted auto box?  Then convert it using this front cut.

The HNU12's don't have a front LSD... the HNU13's do.

The driveshafts are differant, just ask ZiiN

i lost the function of reverse today...thought you guys may have experienced this before.

You should lose 3rd and 4th gears soon ;)

Probably best to get it repaired before that happens.

I've got a U13 Attesa auto gearbox spare.  Nothing wrong with it as far as I know.  I simply took the engine that was attached to it.  I'm sure we can arrange something if things get desperate for you.  I'm in Brisbane.

thanks attessa sss i rang them today and bought it of them for $250 shipping extra.
thanks counterpunch if you still have the box i might look at as a spare as im thiking of beefing up an auto box.

they had a manual from a gti-r but wasnt sure that would of fitted my car.
i think alot of people are unsure if they match up or not to a U13 attessa.

the gtir boxes are pretty much identical, if the bellhousing didnt fit you just swap over to the U13 bellhousing and your done

ive just found out that the U13 attesa auto trans for sale is in fact a U12 attesa auto trans.

would the U12 auto fit the U13 ???

may have to get that box of you counterpunch if the the above doesnt work out.

id still like a manual though...anyone seen one around for sale id rather get that.

to add to above, in another thread i had running before i found about converting auto to manual and the following was possible

In HNU13 in the case of a combination.
HNU12-GEARBOX + HNU13-TRANSFER CASE = OK
HNU13-GEARBOX + HNU12-TRANSFER CASE = NG
HNU12-GEARBOX + HNU12-TRANSFER CASE = NG

HNU13-TRANSFER TYPE=FTY10V
HNU12-TRANSFER TYPE=FTY10

does this mean you can substitute a transfer case from an auto for a manaul??? seems like a dumb question eh.

Yes you can as far as I'm aware.  From information I have gleamed from the bluebird NZ forums, the differance lies within the centre diff (which is not inside the transfer case).

PM replied.  Also just for your information, the auto clutch on the U13 Attesa's appear to be the same as the 180SX.  I found that out when I did the engine swap just recently.  If you can afford it, I would also strongly recommend beefing up the gearbox with heavy duty parts for quick shifting.  It shouldn't cost you much more now that you have to go through a gearbox replacement.

what would you reckon it would cost to beef it up and what parts would i need...

whilsts it out why not get it done. !!!

will that quicker shifting offer much of a performance advantage or just make the box stronger  ???

Quicker shifting will give you a firmer feel to the shift and in most cases it makes the acceleration of the car slightly quicker, but quicker shifts put more wear on the 'box. For a 'box to be properly modified to shift quicker the auto-trans technician must know his stuff, if it isn't done properly the gearbox can last just a few weeks before needing to be rebuilt again. Have a talk to a few different auto specialists, and also ask around to see what experiences people have had with different shops.

the auto clutch on the U13 Attesa's appear to be the same as the 180SX.
What do you mean by 'auto clutch'? Do you mean the torque converter which goes between the engine and gearbox, where the clutch is in a manual? It may fit but I'll bet it's different internally with respect to stall speeds and whatnot.

Oh and heavy duty parts have no effect on the 'quickness' of the shifts.
