D2 Racing suspension coilovers
« on: Jan 20, 2006, 11:37AM »
Hi there!

I am new to this site, managed to bump into it while at work...

I've got a 93 U13, had it for nearly 2 years now. No mods except for the 16" mags that came with it when I bought it.

Anyhow...

The handling was horrid when I bought it (cut springs). I did some searching and found a brand called D2 Racing. They make a whole bunch of suspension gear for many cars. I had looked into Whiteline but they stopped making them when I was ready to buy...

I found a seller on Ebay in Sydney that could get me a set for the U13. Fully adjustable coilovers. I paid $1650 shipped and had them installed by a suspension shop.

Has anybody heard of these, or even got them in their car? Just wanting to know what their thoughts are. I love them. Handles great! Slightly rough as the spring rates are quite high, but I get a bit of oversteer now instead of understeer.

I've heard of them, however getting them for the U12 could be an issue. How different are the U13 struts to the U12's?

don't quote me, but i think that the rears are identical. the front struts on a U13 are wider.

Well, the rear struts on an AWD and FWD U13 are exactly the same... bar the valving in the shocks and springs rates to compensate for the AWD weight.

I thought the front U13 struts were the same as the U12's?

Nah budgie that is wrong.  If you have ever seen a u13 strut and spring vs a u12 one... The u13 one is absolutely Massive in comparison.  By that i mean the diameter of the strut itself is much bigger.  You can fit the spring off the front of the u12 inside the u13 spring.
I am a man More sinn'd against than sinning.

Does anyone have a stock u13 suspension setup (one complete front and rear strut) they would be willing to lend out to me for one weekend? If the D2's for the u13 fit the u12, i'd rather purchase those than modify the spare u12 struts i have.
