just a quick note guys, you can be defected for chequer plate floor mats.. i'm still gonna put some in one day, but make sure its easily removable so you can clear your defect

even the ones u get at autobarn etc??? the plastic ones? (they don't look half bad btw ::) )
Lisa: Dad, we did something very bad! Homer: Did you wreck the car? Bart: No. Homer: Did you raise the dead? Lisa: Yes. Homer: But the car's okay? Bart & Lisa: Uh-huh. Homer: All right then.

nah im pretty sure those ones avail from auto barn etc are legal because its not metal, its a rubbery plastic compound which is similar to what other floor mats are made from, the reason behind chequer plates being illegal is because you need special shoes, same deal with the race pedals..... cops have pulled me over with the auto barn chequers in and they havent said anything to im guessing its all good
What do ralliart do??? make stickers???

if your pedals have rubber bits on them your fine.

as for floow mats, as long as they're carpet or rubbery they're fine too

Ok, so more planning has been done. We are having the aluminium CB on the floor on top of the black carpet, and the rubbery stuff on the door in between the top and bottom black vinyl. We are also taking the little shelves off the front doors and putting the speaker grills back on (obviously because they will no longer be covered by anything).
We are going to do around the vents, dials, window winders etc. with chrome paint (using a fine paint brush), using an air compressor we are spraying the dash, console and any other bit of brown plastic, black. We are putting blue neons under the dash so they light up the driver and passengers feet (and will make the CB glow .. cool huh ?), we are replacing the dash lights with blue LED's so the dials etc. glow blue.
Now, the latest development is the air brushing (I knew that'd get your attention !). A friend of mine at Uni does airbrushing, and she (yes ... shes a hot chickie that does it :P) said because the owner is my friend, if he buys the paint shed air brush his interior for $50 - $100 :) Not bad considering it'd cost a couple of grand to get done by a shop.
What we are planning is one of those static electricity balls (you know the ones, you put your hands on them and the electricity touches your fingers) on the roof using blue, black, purple, pink etc. (to look realistic) and then bolts of electricity going down the sides of the windows, over the doors etc. with some leading to the dash and the blue neons. Sounds pretty sweet huh ? Problem being, we are trying to decide whether black carpet would still be ok for the roof ? And if not what can we use ?

that sounds awesome, with the blue leds behind the gauge cluster tell me where u get em cos i could finad any that fitted (the globes are weird), in the mean time i sandpapered off the green sticker things and put red selophane (spellng?) behind the gauge cluster, i know it sounds really cheap but it looks pretty good.  I'd much preffer to replace the globes tho.

Yeah we think its going to be a bitch to get blue bulbs so we are going to use blue translucent contact behind the gauges. Contact is thicker than celephane and probably more heat resistant. It'd give a better blue hue. We ARE however replacing the current globes with really bright white ones, so that the blue really lights up the panel.
We also decided that the electricity bolts coming from the roof will run down the window pillars, the front 2 bolts going into the neons, middle 2 going straight into the floor and the back 2 going into the speakers.
Apparently the door shelves ARENT staying off now, they will have the rubber chequer board behind them and the shelves themselves will be sprayed completely black

yeh i thort u might have a bit of trouble with the globes, i went to jaycar, tandy, dicksmith, marlows, auto one and nissan. the only thing i could find were the standard ones from nissan :(.  Whered u get the brighter ones, cos with about 5 layers of red selophane the dials are a bit dim  :P

guys, those bulbs are really common!

you know the little twist socket thing that comes out the back of the gauge cluster, well, the bulb comes out of that, and its the same as the parker bulbs. you can get blue parkers almost anywhere..

otherwise, paint them with opaque paint.

Where would have them Noss ? We havent taken the dash of yet so we werent sure exactly what we were going to be dealing with. BTW, what gives the gauges the green colour ? Is it the lights or a green sheet behind the speedo etc. ?

yes the bulbs have a flat bit that goes into the socket.

blue ones you can get them from autobarn, super cheap and other similar stores. clear ones you can get from anywhere, repco, autobarn, supercheap, kmart you name it, if they have car bits, they have them.

whats happnin with this interior man? sorry to dig up an old thread but i remembered u said that u could get the real checker plate stuff for $10 a kilo and that they cut it to size for u, well the best offer i've had so far is $128 for a 120x240cm piece that i would have to cut myself . just wondering were u got this price from?  :)
