another Idea for boosting the U13
« on: Sep 17, 2005, 03:17PM »
for those wanting to turbo the U13 KA24DE engine I offer a cheaper (but effective)solution
this is my friend's U13 altima:

he's running
stock U13 Bluebird sr20det manifold(modified)
10psi of boost using a T28(used to have the stock BB's t25)
JWT ecu
Q45 fuel pump
Q45 fuel injectors (Z32 injectors are also possible)
stillen FPR
stock MAF

stock U13 sr20det manifold with ka24de flanges welded in place

I don't know what the infiniti Q45 is called in Japan, but this is waht they look like:

you can get KA24DE turbo manifolds (built to fit) from the states for $200-$300 delivered to your door.  But if an SR20 manifold happens to fall into your lap for less... why not eh?

Nice find, good pics to illustrate too  8)

I hope for your friend's sake that whoever welded the manifold pre-heated both parts to help penetration, otherwise it's just going to crack. How long has he been using it for?

Sometimes we just need to remember what the rules of life really are:
You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape
If it doesn't move and should, use WD-40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use Duct Tape.

Or the Mazda/Eunos cars :)

Nissan/Infiniti Q45s are nice cars, retailed for around $140 000 new. The V8 outputs reasonable power and torque but in the heavy frame, it isn't a performance monster, high 8s for 0-100 run.

I think 0-100 in high 8's for something as big as the Cima, which is what it's called in Japan btw, is pretty bloody good.

What does the auto u13 pull from 0-100 btw? High 8's?

Don't get me wrong... the KA24DE is fantastic in my opinion. I've dragged FJ20's and they haven't had as much go as my brother's KA24DE manual Bluebird - even with chip/extractors/timing mods my bro still beats me with only pod & advanced timing. If I had to replace my engine it would be the KA24DE all the way.

0-100 in high 8's is quicker than most other mainstream cars on the road, except the latest Magnas and Falcons (don't know about the latest Commos). Of course most imports, etc are excluded from this bunch.

Rich, approximately mid 8s 0-100 for the auto Bluebird.
The autos are a bit slower than the manuals but they aren't a slug, just edged out an EL XR6 (tickford enhanced) from a TLGP once ;)
He just got me on the next run with a complimentary shake of the fist.

High 8s for a luxury sedan isn't too great, look at the gen 3 Berlinas/Calais' and the Statesmans but then again the Gen 3 is a few years newer.

Alister, I know the brochure speel, but I don't think you'd ever get mid 8's from an auto u13.  Race a manual u13. I think you'd be unpleasantly suprised.

My brother's u13 is nearly dead even with me to 100km/h, and they were rated at 7.9 seconds 0-100.

And while you're there, put that Q45 against the VQ Statesman V8 (same year model) and see who wins. ;) You'll find that the big japanese luxury cars are purely designed for smoothness. It would be rare in their work to see full throttle very much. Especially at $100,000+

A VS Commodore auto will do the 0-100KM/H in high 8s, the U13 auto is quicker than a VS.
It also depends whos driving, an experienced driver will be able to obtain a quicker 0-100KM/H result in a U13 auto or manual than a relatively inexperienced driver in a U13 auto or manual.

Anyone got any links to a reputable 0-100KM/H U13 time?

a VS Commo would be more like mid 9's mate. After the VR all the new auto Commos are in the mid-9 sec bracket. Only the VZ escapes.

But yes, auto u13 would more than likely be quicker than an auto VS. Doesn't prove anything though.

Rich, my mates auto VS made 116rwkw.  Mods are extractors, exhaust and a CAI.   Urqs 'heavily' modded TRX made 88fwkw. A U13 ATTESA (auto) made 91kw @ all four.

This was all on the same dyno, 20mins or so after each other.

I think the VS would win aganst them all mate.

VS: 11.7kg/kW

TRX: 14.2kg/kW

U13 ATTESA: 15.4kg/kW

So the VS would be the fastest.

The VS Executive V6 is 1385kg according to UHCA.

VS: 11.7kg/kW

TRX: 14.2kg/kW

U13 ATTESA: 15.4kg/kW

So the VS would be the fastest.

Nah mate...
The VS is actually a bit of a slug (well compared to the VN, VP, VR). Gearing and other factors play a part, not just power to weight.
The U13 Attesa will run the 1/4 mile and 0-100KM/H much quicker than a VS and TRX.
The KA24DE U13 is quicker than the TRX and the VS too.

VS is RWD - 15 to 20% typical drive train power loss.
TRX is FWD - 10 to 15% typical drive train power loss.
U13 Attesa is AWD - 20 to 25% typical drive train power loss ???

Budgie: 91KW is woeful for a U13 Attesa, you sure something wasn't wrong with it?
The U13 KA24DE around 85kw (give or take) stock, at the wheels.
A TRX is good for about 75kw at the wheels stock, right?
I don't have any reputable VS times but the VR was quicker (despite the VS 20kw more) than the VS. The VR did 0-100 in 9.2sec according to Wheels.

A member on another forum, did the 1/4 in about 17 sec in his VS Acclaim Auto (stock).

I bet you all $500 each that this VS will beat EVERY non-turbo TRX on this site.

It thumps Urqs car and thumped the crap out of mine many times.

Alister, try closer to 40% drivetrain loose from the ATTESA system.

I'm talking about a stock VS budgie, you clown ;) And I personally think 17.022 is pretty bloody good for an auto VS. I wouldn't expect them to get any better than 17 stock. They tend to die a bit after 100.

I have a u13 FWD manual with Pod filter and extractors.

I have smoked many VS, VR and VTs.... nothing is more satisfying that pulling up next to a P plater in a commodore with Clear tail lights and smoking him infront of his 12 yr old girlfriend.

Now my pod filter and extractors might add a couple of HP... but nothing like the 50kw gain you get from having clear tail lights on a commodore.

Just thought I'd add my opinion... u13 KA24DE smokes stock commodores... even ones with clear tail lights and/or an exhaust tip.

The End.
