Quick post to show off my new skirt. Other one is still being worked on, I just have no time atm.

If i get the time soon i may do a tech writeup. Im just really busy with school/work/other shit at the moment. Ive got photos of the production process and a whole heap of pricing info etc. But it will take time to do it properly.

Just a quick summary:

To do this you need:
-patience
-a bit of confidence, not scared to effectively destroy something
-more patience

Price wise I think ive spent somewhere between 3-400 dollars on everything ive needed (for two). Ill find recipts later.

Materials:
-Fibreglass
-Fibreglass resin + catalyst
-Foam that will not be eaten by resin (for moulding purposes). You may need to go to a place that manufactures using fibreglass. I got mine from a place that i used to work at called MaxiTrans. They make truck trailers
-Sandpaper - varying grits
-Angle grinder + sanding discs
-Builders bog
-primer-filler (spray)
-plastic primer
-primer undercoat
-colour spray
-Theres probably more that I cant think of atm

All in all this is a time consuming process. I thoroughly understand why custom kits are so expensive. Or any aftermarket kit for that matter. The amount of man hours that goe into making this kind of stuff is ridiculous. Granted im an amatuer, but to do the job properly requires a lot of time. I started this in november and have spent many a night in the garage till dawn working on the suckers, and while im happy with it theres still a lot of imperfections in it.

That being said, if anyone is thinking of doing this ill be happy to lend a hand or some advice in whatever way I can.

As for the front bar, Id like to do it but I dont like the idea of floating around for months without a front end. Also, if I go turbo im gonna have to chop it up to fit a cooler so id rather do it after that.

Don't like it. Looks a bit excessive and takked-on for my liking, I don't feel that it flows with the cars contour.

Awesome bogan! Thats what I like to see, custom work. You've done well mate!

Those bigger skirts will look kickass with some nice 17 inch rims as well.

Its good to see someone put in the effort to finish off a job like this. I have no idea about fibreglassing but I would imagine to get that smooth a finish it would take ages. I agree with Budgie, with some big rims that will look VERY nice.

yep i agree with everyone here

bigger ground effects front and rear and some massive rims would set it right off

apart from that they do look good and + karma for geeting in and doing shit yourself

Thanks for the comments all - even yours Rake, i can understand where you're coming from. I was a bit aprehensive about it when it went back on, especially as the finish doesnt match the car atm (needs to be waxed/buffed). The shape has grown on me more though, and most people who have seen it in the flesh have liked it.

Its not a perfect finish - theres many defects in it up close, for reasons i will explain when/if i do a writeup. Any free time I have over the coming weeks will be spent fixing a few motor related issues, and beefing up some security facades as we are now averaging a car broken into a week at work. Security does nothing about it, Westfield doesnt care so we shall be taking matters into our own hands as of this week (anyone up for a stakeout?

). Will post in the flames section if we catch the bastards.

As for the rest of the bodykit and rims - like i said i dont want to do the front just yet. Id like to get a bit more practise before I do that. Maybe some skirts for a mates R31. Ill have to talk to him. Plus I need time. Rims - dont want any just yet. Id rather spend the money on the motor. New head coming which needs to be PnP'd, possible cam and little improvements. And im doing some suspension work. Plus I have the feeling i'll be up for a new tranny soon so ill be keeping some beans aside. I just cant justify the expenditure on rims which IMO are primarily asthetic.

I might give a rear bar a go if i find another at the right price.

The effort and 'professionalism' that went in is one thing, the finished product and design is another. Looks as though you've done a good job but yeah I just dont like how the U12 body curves down and then it juts out from the side.

Might look better with a complete matching kit though, rather than just the skirts.

As for westfield, good luck!! Burwood westfield in nsw apparently is a spot NOT to leave your car with any half-decent wheels.

Looking very good. I like how you've followed the lines of the rear door logo thingy down into the skirt.

And I agree it would look better with a full kit, even if it's just lower lips on the bumpers.

if the skirts continued down and followed the line of the car it'd look shit.
