U13 Tuning?
« on: Mar 2, 2005, 05:01PM »
Hi guys,

After meddling with the air filter, my mind is pondering about tuning to my 95 LX Bluebird and my imagination is running wild/ ;D But I'm lost at the same time  >:(  Just wondering what sort of tuning can maximise the potential of the bluebird? Aftermarket piggy back ECU? Air/fuel mixture tunning?   ???

A daughter board with properly tuned eeproms is the way to go. Piggyback's are good, but you really need one that will do ignition timing modification also, and i wouldn't touch a unichip with a 10ft pole.
That only really leaves a few units, the Pefect Power SMT6 that i'm currently using, the new SMT7 and the Greddy E-manage. A new version of the Emanage is coming out this year apparently.

You're not going to see the gains you're hoping for with only an airfilter change and modified engine management. You really need a full exhaust and cams.

I'm still looking for alternatives for the car. I've been looking up turbo kits that bolts straight on, but at the same time considering the potential of the bluebird with such mod. The first consideration is the capablity of putting the power down onto the ground in a fwd, the weight distribution of the car (my guess is that the car is really heavy in the front, this will induce more understeer), the clutch ability to handle the power etc. However, the only tempting factor is the strong KA24DE block. I've visited a couple of US 240SX websites with wicked turbo charged 240SX, pushing some good figures and citing," There is no replacement for displacement". I'll continue to float around till I found what I want.  ;D

No one at antrx has done this mod as we don't have all that many U13 members. being a fwd car the U13's exhaust manifold is at the front, just behind the radiator. I dunno how much you know about turbo's but they run off of exhaust gases, so this "turbo kit" yould comprise an exhaust manifold, turbo and dump pipe and perhaps all the associated turbo-intercooler plumbing. It is very possible given the space. You should look in a 300zx TT engine bay. now THAT is a confined space.

" There is no replacement for displacement".....ofcourse they say that, they're yankys, that's what there entire tuning philosophy is based on.....

having said that though, i consider the ka24de't a much better proporsition for serious power then an sr20det in terms of fully rebuilt engines, which has a lot to do with the difference in displacement, though for me it's the presence of a larger bore rather then it's overall displacement!! :P

I was also looking at some of the turbo kits for the DE, some were going on ebay for as little as $750 (inc. everything but intercooler) As for space... there is enough space, it would be a reasonably tight fit, but having  the huge stock exhaust manifold doesnt do the space justice.  It certainly would fit.. well it does in the US altima.

Noss has advised us that his U13 Bluebird (K24DE) chips should be available by mid this year. It would be a great place to start, cheap and decent power/torque gains.

Just curious about dropping KA24E piston into KA24DE. This increases the compression ratio isn't it. How much better will it be the performance in terms of power and torque. What is the impact of doing this, use of higher octane fuel, pinging etc?  ???

you'd have to run the car strictly on premium fuel, and you'd probably need the ecu remapped a little. not sure how much remapping would be required though, if colby puts E pistons in his DE then i'll be tuning his ecu and i'll be able to tell you then.
