Silvia Wheels on a Bluebird
« on: Jul 20, 2004, 12:52PM »
Hey All,

i am goin to be doin a brake upgrade soon, putting skyline 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears on my car, only drama is wheel clearance.
i have seen silvia wheels for 4 pot brake upgrades, basically with Skyline GTR offset, would this be the best way to go for direct bolt on. just so don't have to perform a 5 stud conversion???

thanks all

I can't answer your question about the wheels, but i am in the middle of that dilemna right now with fitting 4 piston R32 calipers on my U12.
A 12.5mm spacer leaves approx. 2mm clearance between my wheel and the caliper.
I think that basically means you need a wheel with an offset of around +27.5 (possibly +30), my current wheels are +40 offset. With the spacer on, the tyre is only JUST under the guard.

These aren't free floating spacers either. They bolt onto the hub using my old wheel nuts, and the wheel bolts onto the spacer, as the spacer has it's own OEM Nissan front wheel studs. One prototype has been done, the design modified and i'm about to send the revised design off again to be machined up; hopefully they will be perfect.

So far in parts this brake conversion owes me just on $800.

EDIT: A pic.

Sorry...just completely off topic but  SSS you might know.

Why are spacers illegal? From that pic it doesn't look like anything is 'dodgy' with the spacers on the hubs....so why do they ban them? (in SA anyway)

First a Silver TRX, then a White TRX...whats next? Game Boy-Clear style TRX?

they're illegal cause most people just get a bit of metal with a few holes in it and stick it over the stock wheels studs.. hence sss' comment on 'floating spacers' which in turn gives you less thread to bolt your wheels onto which can be/is dangerous.

As noss said "floating" spacers reduce the amount of thread engagement available to secure the wheel.

Technically they are illegal as you can't increase the track on a FWD chassis that uses Macpherson struts and has (if i remember) a negative scrub radius.
It's stupid, but basically the spacers i designed are at least twice as strong as the standard hubs, and like i said the spacer has its own pressed in OEM nissan wheel studs.
