Rubber strips
« on: Mar 8, 2008, 02:43PM »
My Corsair has this rubber stripe running the the whole way around the car

Its looks bad, very faded and the top of the strip is peeling etc, my idea is to just pull it off and replace with a similar material of the same width after the car has been painted. Off hand I don't know off any thing I plan to look around but thought others here may have done similar or know of a particular thing that could be used to replace it where they got it etc.

There is actual holes under some sections so would have to fill them plus there is an indent that the whole strip fits into so if the strip is gone  there is still the indent where it was, seems easier to replace it with something no filling holes etc than.
But yeah I suppose thats an option.

There wont be holes to fill. The indent where the strip runs is how the doors on the trx look.

I thought you meant on the doors, those holes im assuming will be hidden by the mudflaps.

I hate to break it to you but, on my corsair the mudflaps sit below the rubber strips, I assume all corsair's would be the same, The holes will not be hidden by mudflaps as corsairs don't have mudflaps in front of the rear wheels only behind them.

Thanks for the replies, at this stage I think I will just remove it and clean it up and let them fill those holes when I get it sprayed I want to keep it simple I don't want spend much more $2000 on a paint job. Stupid bloody clear coatings they put on them :)

Its burgundy, it is average as is but the clear coating is pealing and is only going to get worse already is really bad on the boot. I am going to get it redone in burgundy.

If you are going to get a full respray I would atleast change the colour slightly to a more metallic, red or purple burgundy. My brother is getting that done on his sprinter, he is going from a flat redish burgundy to a metallic burgundy.

im planning on removing my black stripe off the car and bogging the gaps so its all level and leave the chrome strip around the car coz i eventually plan to get my car resprayed black

strange how u have holes tho i pulled off the same piece of trim and there were no hole behind it.....was ur trim held wid clips in them holes i presume... mine had like double sided trim tape holding them on

There was no clips at all this was also stuck on with a glue or double sided tape. I don't think it was much of an issue to cover them tho they used Fibermax.
One thing I noticed is that when the stripe was removed it also removed some of the paint.
