julz is still only getting 430 k's outta a tank of fuel.
replaced all sensors, no exhaust leaks etc

things ive noticed - it operates just under the first dot - which i believe means that its running coldish
                             - raditator cap leaks - less pressure means less efficient?
                             - there seems to be a greasy/oily buildup at the base of the dizzy
                             - leads feel looseish on the sparkplugs, but im not getting misfires, or running on less cylinders

could these things have anything to do with it? if so, how do you clean dizzy's properly? cant remember how much new leads are?

cheers biaches

Dizzy leak is from either of 2 orings, one on the shaft that enters the head and the other is the oring for the dizzy cap.

As for the loose plugs, mine were like that, and still are and dont seem to effect fuel economy that much. Operating cold made a huge difference to me fuel economy wise, well worth sorting out that issue first. My problem was a stuck open thermostat.

While your at it replace the rad cap too, not expensive and an easy fix...

Orings are easy to do, but you'll need a timing light.

Basically, unbolt dizzy, remove from head, replace oring and replace dizzy, adjust timing (remember to remove tps when doing this) and thats it. Other oring is just a matter of taking the dizzy cap off, replace oring, put cap back on and your away.

Have you checked to make sure you dont have a leaky injector?

Also double check you fuel lines, i found that the hose from the hardline to the bottom of the fuel filter had a very small leak.

checked fuel lines, and injectors have been taken off cleaned and tested in some machine and put back in. im pretty sure the dizzy leak isnt the one going into the head. will sus ou this arvo when she comes home from work.

as far as cleaning the dizzy, just wipe out? or can i use inox/wd40 or electrical contact cleaner?

I took the safe option and just wiped it clean with a rag, takes a bit longer to make sure its all good but i didnt want to risk having to buy a new cap just because i used contact cleaner on it.

I also filed down the contacts to make sure there is a good connection path for spark.

If there's oil inside the dizzy you need to replace the seal on the shaft of the dizzy, and to do that you need to completely dismantle the distributor. A bit daunting but if you take your time it's easy.

Cleaning the cap... use a non-oily solvent like white spirit, or just wipe it down with a rag. Scrape the terminals inside with a screwdriver to remove any scale that's accumulated. Check the carbon contact while you're in there, it should be about 10mm or longer.

Have you tried all the usual stuff like fuel filter, temperature sensor, o2 sensor, air filter?
