car giving me problems
« on: Jun 10, 2007, 01:33AM »
when i start my car it will hit a few times then die. you have to keep your foot to the floor in order for it to start and then once it gets started you have to rev it until rev limiter for it to run properly. i have replaced the distributor, rotor, cap, plugs, wires, pcv valve, fuel filter and im putting in a new coil soon for unrelated reason but it mite help i dont know. i have been looking up on this for some time because it seems like im wasting my money on all this stuff and it doesnt fix the problem, altho it does get me new parts. i read something the other day where some body had a similar problem. now only does the car no start properly but in first gear it has a lot more power loss when you step on it. i read that it possibly could be the MAF. i cleaned it A LOT and the car got a little better. i dont know if that what it is or not. can any body shed some light on my problem, maybe if youve had the same issue, any help would be awesome. and btw, i have used search

1. check your tps
2. clean your maf
3. check your spark plugs
4. reset ecu

nah don't pull the plug off,

the tps is situated on your throttle body, put the multimeter between ground and 0-5v leg and measure what it's at,

it should be .044-.46v

Do get a service manual and troubleshoot step by step, might save you a couple of dollars.  :)

what do u mean by the 0-5v leg? when it comes to parts on this engine in not famililar with, im somewat retarded ??? :-\, also, if i go to a wreckers and find another MAF, can any body ballpark a cost? i have a feeling its the MAF because i have huge power loss in first gear and the other gears are pretty good. i removed the sensor and cleaned it with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol, but it didnt seem to change anything.

ok, so i think ive elminated everything on my car except for the fuel pump and the MAF sensor. in the process of replacing everything, as of yesterday my car will now start, so there a step in the right direction, but now i have huge power loss in 1st gear and significantly less power in the other gears which leads me to think fuel problem. if anybody has any thoughts on this it wud be good

ok, so an update on whats going on with my car. my original diagnosis was correct, it was MAF related, altho i didnt need a new sensor, my pod adapter aparently isnt for a KA, but instead for a sentra/200sx, so it fits a little off, causing it to slightly block off some of the air to my MAF, also, theres a small spot where it doesnt cover the MAF tubing, which in turn gives me a leak and problems have come from that to... funny thing is, i came up with that diagnosis when my mechanic bud thought it was the fuel pump.... shows how much they kno...

Pods are rubbish. Get a high flow panel mount.
Your car may be able to go faster.
But I can go any where. except into a garage, underground carpark, bridge...
