WHICH CV JOINT TO USE??
« on: Jul 18, 2006, 05:48PM »
Hi another question the search button doesnt answer....

I need a new right outer cv joint.

some mechanics say ts better to buy the whole shaft, not just a joint ..... ive been quoted $215 per side for complete shaft and joint, 5 year warranty at kmart auto

i have found a place in sydney who sell joints with boots and clips for $40 each, the problem is they have 2 models, and we cant figure out which is the correct one for a 1989 Ti pintara with LSD..... why not do it for $40 instead of $215!!!

1.      27 spline outer/25spline inner
2.      27 spline outer/26spline inner

WHICH IS THE CORRECT ONE?

And is it a good idea anyway?

Thanks guys, hopefully i can get this done by the weekend....

I know the LSD and non-LSD shafts have different numbers of splines, but I'm not sure which. I'd guess the 26-spline shafts are for the LSD.

There's a place near newcastle called hardy spicer, I got each complete shaft for $150. They were for a Trx, standard shafts are same price. As jono said they are different.

ok its been almost a year now, i was seeing how long the clunky clunk cv joint lasts....

its still going!

but REALLY shits me as every corner sounds like something is gonna blow....

also i have gone through 3 sets of tyres in 1 year (front only) as i cant get a good alignment with the joint all stuffed up! ive had enough of getting tyres replaced thats for sure.

does anyone have a cv shaft laying about as i still need to know the number of splines on the inner side!

chhers,

Andrew

Splines are the same on LSD and non-LSD boxes, auto and manual and CA20E and KA24E.

There is one difference, the KA24E LSD shaft on the PASSENGER side has an extra set of splines, extending longer into the differential (for the LSD).

Just go to a wrecker and buy a complete shaft mate, quickest way.

i called up hardy spicer in Dandynang,

very helpful guy on the phone...

the right side is the same, got one for $110. complete brand new shaft from a manufacturer in brisbane that make mining equipment etc.

i really recommend hardy spicer. very good service

P.S. the left hand side is more (its $150) for the LSD auto gearbox (unsure for manual)

A somewhat relevant question.
CV boots, generic or Nissan brand ?
Which one is best ?
Its for a U13 and i personally would get a generic one unless people here have had problems

Agreed, can't go wrong for $13 a pop!

I've had some on my car for about 70,000km and they're still going strong.
