Are Ca20 and ka24e driveshafts the same?
« on: Oct 2, 2006, 02:15PM »
Just wondering because apparently one of mine is bent, which is causing my gearbox noise, the local U-pull it only has ca20e pintaras/corsairs. Thanks

Hey man, got some bad news for ya
All CA series fwd automatics are RL gearboxes.

The model number is RL4F02A
The code numbers are:
ca18/e/s       21X67  up to 1988
ca18/e/s       23X11  after mid 1988
all ca20         21X24  up to 1988
ca20 carb      23X02  after mid 1988
ca20efi         23X06   after mid 1988

I will probably be at the wreckers tomorrow if i have time and i can get the auto code of the car i got the ca18de head off

the manual box in the aussie u12 ca20e is a RS5F50A, the auto gearbox in the aussie u12 ca20e is a RL4F02A

the manual boxes in the aussie ka24e are RS5F50A & RS5F50V, the auto boxes are RE4F02A & RE4F02V (the V is the LSD box)

If it is manual they would be. Auto no.
Oh and Lsd boxes use different left shafts

The bell housing has a different pattern thats it.
A LSD can be put in the CA20E gearbox.

So i wouldnt have a problem dropping out my whole ka24 and putting in a ca20e?

Just the clutches would be different right?

if so this is super cool, i'd give my gearbox another 3 days its barely moving let alone the crunching ect.

ok, ive just read up on this. From what i've read it sounds possible to swap ca20e gearsets into an ka bellhousing. Can anyone confirm this? and will it be hard to do?

I dont know for sure, but from what i can hear and what ive been told, my gearsets are buggered probably missing teeth and the synchro's are also gone.

I daresay it would all fit, they are the same model gearbox, just different specification.

Also RL4F02A and RE4F02A autos use the same shafts, they are the same transmission except that the RE is electronically controlled while the RL is hydraulically controlled.

Are you sure that your clutch is disenguaging properly? That would cause it to crunch.

well the clutch and slave cylender are not even 1 month old. The gearbox has been an on-going problem, id say its been making "noise" for a good 6 months and this is its last legs.
