KA24DE workshop manual
« on: Aug 20, 2006, 07:25PM »
Anyone know if there is a workshop manual anywhere online for the U13 / KA24DE motor ?

Just want to see what the crankshaft / oil pump / timing chain sprocket arrangement looks like.

Oh, and how does one get the timing cover off a KA24DE motor  ???

I got a KA24DE head off a U13 Bluebird from Pick'n'Payless today, but couldn't work out how to get the timing cover off. It looks like you need to take the complete sump off ?? I ran out of time so its still just hanging there  :-[

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have searched high and low for an online version of the KA24DE service manual, but to no avail.  I havnt personally pulled off my timing cover before so I cant help you there.  I would say taking off the sump would make it much easier to take off.. you will need to remove the water pump also I think.  Thats got to be a bitch of a job if you are doing it in a pick a part wrecker.  Hope you have small hands!

Thanks for that.

It looks like the sump is two pieces - the main sump and a small square sump hanging down below that.

I got the small square sump off, but the car is sitting on blocks that are under the main sump so there's no way I'll get that off.

And yes, it was a bitch of a job just getting the head off  >:( Took me 4 hours, including a fair bit of time lying in the dirt trying to work out how to get the timing cover off  >:( >:( And no I don't have small hands. After removing the head I do however have bleeding hands :D

I may have to bite the bullet and buy a Gregory's workshop manual.

i've had a usdm 240sx ka24de manual for ages now.. needed it for the cam info. i'll upload just the engine part to antrx if you want it as that'd be the most useful part to you.

Man the amount of times I tried to download the 240sx manual... but it never worked.  I'll be taking a copy of that section also :) thanks noss

Oh on inspection, I have found that the oil pan section is different.  It shows  an oilpan similar to those on the KA24E, but the U13 has a dual part to the oil pan.  But going by this manual you shouldnt need to remove the pan to get the timing cover off.  :)

Thanks for that  ;D  Much appreciated.

That'll be extremely useful as my project progresses.

But yeah, the sump is different on the front wheel drive engines. I don't recall seeing an oil pump hanging down from the timing cover like on KA24E motors. I'll keep looking for info, as I want to return to the wreckers to get the rest of what I'm after (crank sprocket and lower timing chain arrangement). Worst outcome is I'll return with a hacksaw - that'll sort it out  :o

Found a manual the ol' skool way - the local library :D

And yes, the sump does need to come off to get the timing cover off. The offending item is the oil pump which attaches to the inside of the timing cover then hangs down into the sump, preventing you from sliding the timing cover forwards (well sideways on a front wheel drive motor  :() and off the crankshaft.

Hacksaw time  :o
