Title: Tinted my front indicators
Post by: Jono on Aug 24, 2005, 04:51PM
I tinted my front indicators last night with window tinting film. I think they look good, but they're a bit too reflective. The film didn't like sticking to the edges of the lenses so I had to use some clear tape to stick it on.

I think they subtly blend the indicators into the bumper.

Note to self: wash car again

It must look better in real life, its hard to get pictures of reflective stuff. Is it stuck down apart from the edges?

I know a better way of doing them.
Take the lens (amber part) off and spray the inside lightly with flat black spray paint. It will flash thru very brightly.
I did it on my 323 in NZ, they lookey black but when flashed you could still see the amber like the paint wasnt even there. Can show you a pic if you want.

Hmm well the pic is worse then i thought, you can kinda see the indicator (right under the left light) see its very dark but it flashes bright as.

I'll use the URL as the pic is quiet big..

Yea it was a scan of a poleriod pic (think thats what normal photos are called)

I think i did like 2 light coats. Just do one light one, and see what it looks like, if to light do another till you get what you want..

Might do it to my U13 indicators sometime this weekend...will post up some pics..

The tinting on mine looks alot darker when they aren't in direct sunlight. I have another pic but photobucket is playing up on me so I'll have to put it up later.

Yes, the tint is stuck down in the middle. Tinting film is like a sticker that you peel the backing off and stick on. It just wasn't sticking well to the edges of the light.

...Pics still don't work

Better pics:

The effect of the tinting varies ALOT with the lighting. In direct sunlight they look almost like untinted indicators, whereas at night they look jet black.

And yes, that is an LED parker light.

Hey guys,
Whats the best way to tint indicators/taillights?
A friend of mine once bought this spray on tint.
spray his tail lights on his vn. They looked mad.
This would be better than spraying with normal paint.
Anyone else heard of this or any "better" way
to tint lights?

The spray-on stuff is probably the best way to go because tint film doesn't stretch much at all around curves. The surface you put it on can only curve one way.

I did it with the film to see how it looked, also because it's easy to remove and I had it lying around at home.

Bondy, do you mean Pinsair, or me? What photo are you looking at?

A better pic (that I finally got to work):

This shows what the lights look like in normal ambient light. They almost blend into the bumper bar.

Looks good indeed.
Tried to do mine on the U13 in the weekend and well couldnt get the amber plastic off, seems that its glued in. So will just have to wait for the clears to get in..oh well

i know how hard it is to take pics of reflective stuff
It's twice as hard with a camera that is kinda dodgy in a phone you can't see the screen of in sunlight :P

But yeah, the indicators look different depending on the light. Most of the time they look rather dark.
