Title: spray paint interior
Post by: chucky on Mar 15, 2003, 11:52PM
i bought some chrome spray paint for the interior of my car, im not sure if its going to stick to the plastic surfaces... im indending on spraying sections of the arm rest (the pannel where the power window buttons are) aswell as some of the main console sections.... if anyone has ever tried spraying these plastic pannels with regular chrome spray paint, please let me know what the results were like before i go and do it (tommorow arvo)...

i'll let you know whether if its a disaster or success after i try it!

u need proper vynal spray (is that how u spell it? i dunno) special spray that'll grip and the primer, otherwise it just comes off over time.

Do a few test runs... that chrome spray is pretty average.   ::) My 2 cents...

chrome spray is more like silver spray, they chrome the cap, but the paint never turns out like that, just bright silver hehe

it will reflect though in sunny conditions and i wouldnt advise painting alot of the interior areas that get light on them. painting the gauge shroud would be ok because the chances of light hitting and reflect into eyes would be very minimal.

ive painted my interior white, well just the main dash insert around the speedo and also where the 4 vents are (that piece of plastic) with plastic primer and spray paint. ive had it on for about 8 months and havent lost any paint, ive also only cleaned it like twice and its white to, rarely gets dirty at all. i did not paint it in gloss, but a matt finish, its turned out quite well  8)

if u want to see what the white parts on my dash look like, go to the teamnse site and theres ride of the month, should be a few pics of the interior.

After painting the interior, id go using vinyl spray it adheres to plastic better and is pretty much specially formulated for the stuff. its just a bit more expensive, but holds alot more paint/dye.

ie $13 bucks each for vinyl, vs like around 7-8 dollars each for good spray paint.

i sprayed the pannels where the power window controls are, 'chrome' which turned out little more than silver, however this was what i expected.... i used chrome on an old bmx a few years ago and it never quite turned out how i expected... but yeh.... the silver was the look i was kinda going for in the first place, i saw chrome for the same price n decided it couldnt hurt to try... i've done all 4 pannels and have some chrome plans for the interior! rock on

you should be able to link with your IP address.

say your IP is 192.168.0.1 have something that looks like

http://192.168.0.1/chucky/pictures/image.gif

or

192.168.0.1/chucky/pictures/image.gif

you will probably have to setup webserver software. if you are running linux or windows, apache is the go. i have no idea if your using a mac. there are other options for programs that you can use. it just depends on wahts easy for you.

apache is usually your best bet though. if you cant find it (which would be wierd) let me know, and i'll email it to you.

thanks, there are little extra bits in the car that are also silver, for example the pannels where the power window buttons sit... but yer, i was very impressed with the outcome of the dash bit, now just to change the colour of the guages!

How did you get it to not be blotchy ? Chrome paint usually turns out all streaky ! I am really impressed dude, thumbs up to you ! Did you hold the can far away to make sure it didnt drip and run etc. ?
