does your horn randomly beep by itself? here is a quick how to on fixing it

Time for another Rake How-to :P :

1 ) Remove fuse until it's fixed and to avoid any electrocution whilst working on the horn :P

2 ) Yank off the press-plate-part-thing. Take off the ground wire too. Take the thing from the car, we needn't do anything else in there.

3 ) Take off the front cover (With the Nissan or Ford badge depending if it's a pinnie/corsair)
4 ) Unscrew the silver metal thing on the back, remove

5 ) Observe the back .. I kindof bent/flattened all of the little clips for the thin top metal part and pushed them through, and bent it up at the top where it's rivetted. Clean out all of the old crappy black foam!

6 ) Buy some new foam. I used 6mm but it's a tad thick, I'd be suggesting something 4-5mm thick. You only need enough to cover the metal contact parts, not much at all.

7 ) Cut out the foam to the "underwear" shape as I call it :p

8 ) Sit the foam over the silver part with the bumps. Feel around the foam finding where the bumps are located underneath it, then cut holes in it. I find the easiest way to do this is to fold the foam in half and cut a V-shape, making a kindof dodgy square :P Sharp scissors help as foam compresses under blunt ones. Do this all over the foam pad making holes everywhere so that it'll work pretty much whereever you push it.

9 ) Cut holes also for the top plate's clips to fit through.

10) Fit it into place and bend the top plate back down, put the clips through their holes in the black plastic and bend them so they hold. If the foam has trouble fitting in place, correct it (I had to snip a bit off at the top).

11) Reassemble - screw on the back silver part (Don't forget to reattach the wire on the bottom-left screw), put on the cover, etc.

12) Put it back in the car, attach the wire, put and push into place :)

13) Fit fuse and try it!


I left my fuse out overnight just until I was satisfied that it worked fine. Having the horn go off continiously next to my neighbours window (they have a baby) ain't cool :(
