Title: respraying grill
Post by: TRX_wnb on Aug 16, 2004, 04:30PM
hey there, my red pintara has a black grill insert that im gonna change to red, will a red touch up can from super cheap etc do? or is it best to get it properly resprayed??

cheers

the red pintara paint is no longer made by any 'touch up can' manufacturers. you will have to go somewhere that will match your paint.

most good automotive paint stores will have the facilities to make you pressure packs with matched colours to your car.

and yeh, i think for something like a grille this is the ideal way to go about painting it yourself.

If you don't rub it back with some 300-600 grit wet or dry, the paint won't stick. And it depends what kind of finish you are after too.

yeh i shoulda said that..

pull the grille out and sand it back, prime it and paint it.

This car is in pretty ordinary condition, and consequently the clips on the grill to the body are very brittle, best solution? im thinking just a big pair of pliers and a hamburger

hamburgers are always good.

my old grille was glued on. pain in the ass to get off. my new grille.. suprise suprise, no clips! so mine is cable tied on.

And it'll come up looking better if you rub it back with some 2000 grit wet or dry (wet, of course) to get rid of the orange peel, and polish it up.
