Title: Rebuild costs for ka24e and LSD 5 speed

Just wondering if anyone can help me with how much it should cost to rebuild these items. I've had a quote from a place about the motor and they think bout $3500 that's if I rip the motor out and take it to them

That sounds about right for a motor and gearbox.

That was just for the motor. I haven't got a quote for the box yet. Anyone in Brisbane know of a good engine reconditioning workshop preferably in the western suburbs

My recommendation is to take the motor and box out & install yourself if you have the space/skills.  Easy to do and should cut a good $500 off the bill. 
Think my engine rebuild was about $1600 drop of engine and they do everything and delivered back home afterward :)

Was that just for a basic rebuild nothing fancy like oversize pistons or alot of machine work on the head???

$3500 is a rip off for a motor only build.

I'd expect forged rods / pistons for that price.

I thought it was a bit rich but even a gem engine is around the same price. I think I will b doing some ringing around before I make a decision on what I should do.
