Title: Was it worth it?
Post by: 1990_Corsair on Aug 29, 2008, 07:44PM
ok, i bought a relativly good condition corsair 3 days ago. its the 2.0 with the auto (auto is for the misses sake ) i knew it was overheating when i got it and was told it was probibly a heater hose or something small like that. It Isnt after having put water in it its pissing water out of what appears to be the head gasket (hoping its not a crack in the head) however thats not my main concern.
when i went to see the car the guy lent in the window and started the car yet everytime i try and do this it just coughs splutters and really does not want to idle, i noticed when he started it the overdrive was on and as yet i havnt tried starting it with the overdrive on (pure lzzyness) is this common that corsair/pintara's have trouble starting without overdrive, is it worth me fixing the head gasket and servicing the car ( to make it idle better ) or should i just p*ss it off and start again?

overdrive has nothing to do with starting the car. as discussed in another thread, overdrive is just the 4th gear of an auto, used for cruising, with a ratio of less than 1:1.

having it on/off just changes the RPM your cruising at, because your obviously at a higher RPM cruising in 3rd gear rather than 4th.

So, Piss it off and start again. (keeping in consideration its rooted, its auto, its ca20  ::))

Do a compression test to see if your head/head gasket are fucked.

Just look at your radiator fluid and check if blobs of oil are floating around....

Blobs of oil may not show up even if your head gasket is stuffed.
