U12/U13 ATTESA dump pipe...
« on: Mar 27, 2006, 07:59PM »
Hey Guys,
Does anyone know if a dump pipe from a GTIR pulsar would fit straight into a 1992 u13 turbo attesa.
Since they are basically the same set up with sr20det red top and attesa 4wd drive system maybe they are
compatible. Turbo flange size should also be o.k (t25/t28)
I want to remove stock cast iron dump and fit a twin dump set up into 3 inch.
I have been told there is a shit load of gain right there and to expect better response as well.
I found a fully coated twin dump pipe system on the net for $600 made for the gtir.
I emailed them and although they are pretty sure it will fit they could not confirm.
Any you guys done any similar research
Thanks Bluebird

Something like this is what I want made.

The protection stuff is NEEDED with a 3" system once your Bluebird/GTiR is lowered.

I vaguely recall a discussion with CES Racing from a looong time back that the GTIR dump they make would fit the U13 Attessa. However, it is a very tight fit so be prepared to take skin off your knuckles and get frustrated. CES supply smaller headed bolts with their pipes to make things a little easier.
If you are interested I shall try to remember to put up some photos when I start fitting mine.

That would be good mate.

As the CES pipe fitting the HNU13, will also mean it will a fit the HNU12.  Would most likely fit the RNU12 as well.

I Purchased a hks style twin chamber dump pipe and it fitted to the stock turbo.

But never ran the car with the manifold on.But it did fit. Just need to cut the flange for the front pipe and twist it and re-weld it.

The HKS dump twisted on a sharp enough angle to clean the AC?  Was this a RWD dump pipe mate?

This is the GTIR TWIN DUMP I was looking at .
http://www.cesracing.com.au/Products/
Click on GTIR and have a look at the dump pipe.
It is from CES but they told me to be 100% sure I should get a stock exhaust from a gtir
at a wreckers and make sure all lines up on a U13 attesa. If all looks good then their GTIR twin dump will be
a straight fit.
A bit of a pain to go through all that.

As i know the s13 one is a differant size to the U13?

i really want a new dump pipe too, easily one of the biggest restrictions on my car atm is the stock dump pipe..........stupid townsville, nobody would do a new one because of the lack of room so they said.

i looked into the CES ones as well, but the price........damn. i'd be happy with just a 3" or 2.5" boring old design dump pipe, none of this split stuff, for around $300. has to keep the A/C too of course. i guess an exhaust place would probably rig one up if i took in a standard dump, they used it's flanges and i got them to stick within the standard dumps external dimensions more or less.

have you guys noticed how the stock dump doesn't look all that small from the outside, but when you look at them off the car they flow sfa - tiny little hole for all that airflow, what a joke.

haha now you guys have got me motivated again

I should have a 3" dump made up very soon Phreeky... from a HNU12 stock dump pipe.

The same on RNU12 and the HNU13... possibly differant O2 sensors however.

CES Racing Twin Dump Pipe NISSAN GTiR.. CONTINUED..

TWIN DUMP PIPE CONCEPT:   HOW DOES IT WORK ?

By utilizing twin outlets from the turbine housing,  the CES Twin Dump Pipe’s function is designed to separate the waste gate gas from the exhaust to arrest turbulence when the waste gate is actuated, giving cleaner uninterrupted FLOW and POWER.  With our CES Racing Twin Dump Pipe the turbo spools up earlier – makes more power all the way through..  this will never happen with the single pipe…
This is THE MOST efficient way to extract extra horse power without any other modifications…

As part of our ongoing products development..  we also will supply an additional mount SUPPORT BRACKET   (along with correct sized nuts/bolts etc)..  that can bolt on with the dump pipe and will further support it to the gearbox..  (for the customers/fitters choice) – depending on undercar conditions.  As the GTiR’s products are very time consuming to fit…(design of the vehicle) – anything to align and make fitting easier is sought…

We will attach some undercar fitment photos.. this example shows s.s. intermediate pipework with our Ceramic Coated m.s. Twin Dump Pipe..

**** A FULL PERFORMANCE SYSTEM is a custom job requiring the vehicle in house.. (for your information)  3”  Cat. Back pipework is a  “nightmare”  to fit..  due to limited space available.. over cross member… but can be done.

Freight extra… available TOLL IPEC  to your door (or workshop) … OR  due to convenient sizing.. C.O.D. Australia Post can be arranged… customer pays for postage and items on pick-up.     Two items together weigh approx 6.5 kgs (packaged)……  1  GTiR Dump Pipe alone weighs about 2.4 kilos packaged…               (O.S. CUSTOMERS FEDEX  FREIGHT AVAIL)

Let us know if we can offer further advice to help you achieve your aims for your vehicle.  Please telephone us…or if around Brisbane call by our workshop and view our display and many photo’s of our work.. or we can post to you via mail a brochure of our work.  Thank you.

too expensive for most people, $650 is a lot of money for dump pipe (although it would have a fair amount of work in it).

have organised to get the old dump pipe of my mates GTiR so i should be talking to some places soon about a simple replacement. i'll put some pics of it up too, but from what i saw when he took it off a while back it appears to only have about 1.5" diameter in one section so very restrictive

This is the stock HNU12 dump pipe I have...

As you can see... its 2" at its WIDEST point after the initial curve.  Its even further restricted within the turn (by bits designed to facilitate the easy removal of bolts)...

beautiful hands budgie ;)

but that's exactly what i was getting at, hence me being happy with anything half reasonable in size and design, nothing flash like the CES one (hell i'd love a CES one, but i'm not paying for it when i'm running a turbo where 90% of the time all the exhaust gas is heading out the main section, not the wastegate part).

i dunno how you'd go about getting a dump pipe made up by a local place without them using the flanges off the old dump pipe, anyone know a place that could get them? i'll ask mtq as i happen to know the right people there, see whether they can get them, pretty sure they could and also get the gaskets too.

The place I spoke to in Geelong who does alot of custom work on turbo cars... were going to laser cut the flanges out for me.

I too, would never pay $650 for a CES dump pipe phreeky!

Looks like I have sparked some debate on this topic.
Good to see.
I have no idea which way to go.
The CES item does look good and probably will perform.
Price is a killer though. Must be a lot of work involved.
They are claiming 20 - 30 kw gain. I assume thats at the wheels.
Thats a fair bit of power. On top of that the turbo will spool up much quicker
which is one of my main aims.
Would you get that sort of gain and response with a straight dump.
At least we know that they have confirmed that a GTIR dump will fit straight on to a u13 attesa.

All you guys researching this topic keep me informed with your findings.
If you can find a cheaper alternative thats works well I will be in as well.
I want my exhaust sorted out soon.

CES Racing workmanship is excellent. I have fitted their split dump to the Stagea with a 3" exhaust. As I have not been back to the dyno as yet I cannot comment on power increases. However I can say that the turbo is far more responsive and power appears to be coming on a litlle earlier.

the power figure they quote as increased will be at the engine, a dump pipe wont give that much of a gain at the wheels, a full exhaust might, but not a dump alone

Budge, i would need to look and see if that bend coming off the turbo flange could come out a little more and bend back to the same lines as the original dump pipe.

But fuck...$650 for a painted MS dump? I wouldn't even charge $500 for a stainless version!

Adam, there is about 3cm more room.

If a custom dump was wrapped in heat-wrap it would be ok.  It runs close to the AC compressor.

let me get this straight, SSS are you making budgies dump? if so, using the flanges from his old dump?

if that's the case......if i like the look of the results, care to make more? or at least one more?!?

budgie: my mate with a gtir has his dump actually resting on the ac compressor, it originally doesn't fit with AC in place however the previous owner of the dump had taken to it with some heat and some solid object and knocked it in. neither of them actually had AC working though, i doubt the effect would be good, so heat wrap would make sense. wonder how well it works...

Hopefully he will be phreeky.

We plan to have a saturday night cruise soon, so I hope to give him the stock HNU12 dump then.

Adam, interestingly enough my custom dump does not need to curve back towards the turbo at all.  The curve back its pretty useless, would be better turning 90' degrees to face straight down then i will have the section of exhaust from the end of the dump to the flex pipe replaced (its a bit fucked anyway).

Nice. That's what i wanted to hear.

Phreeky, the flanges will be laser cut, nothing from the original dump pipe will be used. If it doesn't prove to be much of a pain fabricating these, yeah, i can do more. :)

I have started working on these dump pipes, however looks like the largest pipe i will be able to fit on the flange for the turbine exit ONLY (wastegate will be a smaller 40mm pipe merging back into the main pipe) is 2.5", the flange is simple not large enough to accomodate a 3" pipe straight off the turbo.

Guys, a big update! :)

The dump section (forget the section from flex to cat, thats GTiR specific)...

I have been in contact with a fella in Adelaide who makes these dump pipes.  They are designed for the GTiR but I have no doubt that they will bolt upto our RNU/HNU/13's with the front pipe done as per each individual car.

He can do me the dump only for $300 to my door.  If anyone is interested, I am damn sure that these will fit and work nicely on our cars.  Fella's on GTiR Oz have already got theirs, and say the build quality is very very good.  Its CES but a damn sign cheaper!
