dunno, what do the instructions say? ???

There are different ECU's in Pintaras. TRX's have an ECU with model '39' on it, I don't know about the others.

Hmmm, so do you reckon 200 odd bucks is a good deal for a silver powerchip then?

Its a long shot but all i can think of is that since u bought the highest spec chip they may have given you the others to test in case u prefer one over the other then send back the 2 u dont want. I used to have a power chip, they installed it and beleive it or NOT they handed 2 chips back to me when they were finfished. At the time they said one was the original and the other was a copy of the original [they made for testing it] - the 3rd one being the powerchip was obviously in the ECM! Your situation sounds like a different case though as they have sent them out for a DIY....in any case just give them a call! ;D When I got mine it was a First Case so my experience with 3 chips is prolly different to now. U can now get TRX powerchips 'off the shelf' but mine was a custom job [being the first]... :-/ Good Luck!

I am assuming psychrist has the ka24?
anyone here think that getting that same chip (powerchip Gold 98 ) for the ca20e would be worth it? It's the same price, $450
2.0L 4 -------> 3.0L 6. Does this mean a 4.0L 8 next?? or back to a 2.0L......turbo!

i'm getting a before and after dyno done just to make sure i get SOME results (i'll post them). From what i've read they can have a negative effect. However i'm willing to take the chance and besides, if i get no results after running the new chip in (>500kms i hear), i'll send it back! >:(

Either way i'm looking for smoother acceleration and better throttle responce as the lag below 3000rpm is annoying.  :-[

for those wanting to know i've done the following-
2 1/4" lukey exhaust
HD Daiken clutch
CAI with k&n
fuel ionizer

I'm looking into getting a Silver/Gold chip for my ca20e, but I don't have a spare $450 floating around at the moment (a $240 traffic infringment will do that to you).  Probably November/December at this stage.  I'm only running with a 2.25 sports exhaust, pod filter and extractors.

So will two break-ins in 6 weeks at $90 each lock, and $40 to re-key the lock each time.

I'm only running K&N filter, extractors, 2 1/4 cat back + hiflow muffler & HD clutch. Am very interested in a quad TB for sometime first half of next year tho depending on cost (once I sell my CR250).

i considered the apex'i unit & a uni chip before i got the powerchip.

only reason i got the powerchip is cause i got a good deal on it  ;D its not like i had planned to tak my car much further power-wise, but the deal was so good it didnt really matter if i wanted to upgrade to a better unit later on.

hmm.yes...i agree, those specs are a bit sus if you ask me. Thats straight from thier website. But, what if they had some sort of guarentee, even money back! Thats is.......if I buy the gold 98 one....I have the car dynoed before........then after the chip goes in. I'd like to see if it really makes that much of a differnce. If it does, which I honestly can't see why they would advertise something and not come up with the goods..well..then i'd go ahead with it.
If you ask me......a 13kw gain is huge for the price.....imagine this too......a group buy! Say we get a few units together through the forum and save some money, then pay cash bla bla bal..maybe as low as $400 each. That wouldnt be something I wouldnt have to think about twice! Ideas?

They used to let you do this - not sure if they still do though - here's the catch: it needs to be proven on a special dyno [correvit, i believe] which is expensive and then if it proves the gain is not what they claim u can get yr money back...i dont know if anyone has proven against them though - it made a difference to my car when i had a powerchip. Ask 91nismo and Adam_J what they think of theirs!

Oh yeah, I know there would be a difference.
But....if they say there would be 'x' kw difference. I want to see the before and after results that show this. Sorry, Im a picky person. If I pay for something, Then I want all of it.not just a bit if you know what I mean?
They havent said you need headers, zorst etc. Its just says there is a 13kw increase in the 2.4l. And I want to see this for my money.

Mitza,

I still have my ECU hanging out from when I did my powerchip install. When I'm in Sydney in a bit, I will show you the difference between standard and silver powerchip because I can swap them over quite easily.

I spoke to a guy named Lance and he told me that the prices for a ca20e and a ka24e are the same (or close enough to).  I'm looking at a Gold for my 2.0 so if I've got it before you do, I'll let you know if it's worth it.

ok i have to support my fellow beige pintara owner....yes thats right BEIGE with gold strip at the bottom..come to think of it, its the same as the pintara on martins pintara website. maybe its white and the gold makes it look beige....yep thats it white and gold, no beige here either, looks like shaunk is all alone again. anyhow i phoned this place called jd performance in brisbane, wouldnt respray my car for less than $4,800, so i said could you do it for $500 hundred...? and next minute all i heard was  beep..beep..beep, he must have been cut off! but i think he was happy with that price.

i've had it for about two weeks... i'm just getting used to it at the moment.

it's stock as with 105000kms and straight body... my plans include -
super pro bushes all round
slotted rotors big brakes
suspension - half cage
cusco pulley and cams
and lots of little stuff

don't get me wrong, the trx is a great car and goes hard, hence why i've kept it close.  ;)

I think sssgtr is talking about other computers such as Unichip, Motec, Haltech, etc...probably Unichip based on the $$$ figure he quoted. Although I have been hearing a bit lately about a relatively new one on the market thats fairly cheap. Of course the name escapes me ATM.

I paid approx $1,100 for my Unichip and it is reprogrammable and the best thing is I can take it out and have it tuned on my next car - as long as its Japanese - which won't pose any problems!

Powerchips are good for the money but AFAIK they can NOT be re-programmed [successfully]. So its best to buy it last after you have finished all of your planned mods...like anyone really finishes once they start? ;D
