Horse Racing - The sport of Kings!
« on: Aug 29, 2007, 10:08PM »
Seeing as horse racing has been in the news of late due to equine influenza (not that we're talking about that) and it's getting to the time of year when people all of a sudden become "experts" regarding racing, does anyone have an interest in the sport?

I'll start!

I have been a race horse owner (with mates) for a few years now, we currently only have a three year old filly named Beaming Bella, and I am a big follower of the sport.  In saying that, I am not a big gambler, I can go to the track and not bet if nothing takes my fancy.  Yes, I do have accounts with a few bookies, and call bookies, trainers and other owners amongst my friends.

I live within walking distance of Moonee Valley, five minute drive from Flemington, am a VRC member and probably hit the track a few times a month.

Does anyone else have an interest apart from wearing a suit, getting drunk and not even seeing a live horse on Oaks Day?

Homer!  What have you done to the car?  I don't think it had broken axles before.

Before!  Before!  You're living in the past, Marge.  Quit living in the past.

What, I never said I didn't like it asshat! :P

At least I don't think I did... but if I did, then I'm the asshat.

i enjoy the races.  enjoy going to the local and chilling in the tab.  go to the track every now and then for the bigger meets as well.  The biggest meet here is the Weetwood Handicap, quite an enjoyable day.

most of my experiences of race days involve losing 10 bucks on the horses and like 200 at the bar.

So you'll be at Oaks Day in your off the shelf suit not watching the racing? :P

I'll wave to the cameras from the mounting yard this Saturday at Caulfield, you better watch TVN, first race is at 11:25 and we have a runner.

A couple of mates at work own shares in horses so i keep an eye out for them in the local races when they are racing.

I do like to head down the pub and have a few quiet ones with mates and watch the races, plus of you put some money down, you get more involved!!

One mate makes enough money to survive off of betting on horses, he usually wins arounf $300 most weeks, but then he studies arts at uni and has time to trawl through the form guide :P
