Electric Mirrors
« on: Oct 12, 2005, 06:50PM »
Hey people, as most people who own a U12 with manual wing mirrors know, the little arms snap off...

And because my passanger side wing mirror's arm has snapped off i was wondering if it would be worth upgrading my mirrors to electric ones.  I would like to know how much is involved. Removing the mirrors & replacing them with the electric ones is easy. But i was wondering how hard the actual electronics side of things is?

If anyone can help or even sell me with the mirrors, wiring & control panel that would be awsome.

Thanks, Adrian.

PS i actually own a Corsair, not that there's any difference in mirrors to a Pinni  ;)

Don't do it, too much hard work, unless,

by a wrecked TI, swap the entire interior wiring harness, mirrors, may as well add the power windows, door locks, climate control, cruise control and courtesy lights.  etc etc.  That's what I did.

Pfft, the electrics for the mirrors are pretty simple.

Just pickup the switch/joystick assemly (w/ plug for ease of install and future stuff) and mirrors from a wrecker if you can find them, shouldn't cost anymore than $50.

rofl rob, mad help !  ;)
Don't let the opinions of the average man sway you. Dream, and he thinks you're crazy. Succeed, and he thinks you're lucky. Acquire wealth, and he thinks you're greedy. Pay no attention. He simply doesn't understand.

:P

It gives some information on how wiring runs between different componants, and what paths electricity takes depending on switch positions etc. In this basic case, theres +12V which goes into the power window switch, an earth that leaves it, then 3 wires to each mirror. Hence why I say all you need are the two mirrors, the joystick type switch, and some pretty easy wiring to connect them together.

Match up the pin numbers on the control panel diagram to the control panel in your car, and just run the wires to power and the mirrors from there.

so:

pin 1 goes to power
pin 2 goes to both mirrors
pin 3 goes to ground
pins 4-7 go to the mirrors

You'll have to do a bit of trial-and-error to work out what combinations of wires to use between the control and the mirrors.
