I "accidentally" hit a pot hole once and mine was dead... The tyre place up here charged me $200 to fix it and do a wheel balance (yet again).

It wasn't on Sydney roads Joczy.. I was going throught the Ridge Way.. horrible bit of road.. some places it's gravel and some places tar... Well, it rained like two days b'fore and I thought that it wouldn't be too bad.  And yes Mitza, it was a crator actually. LOL.  I was doin about 60.. and there were all these holes in the road!  No way to get around them, and I wasn't keen enuff to slam on my brakes on this gravel road cause there was about a 40foot drop next to me, and one huge mountain on the other side  :-/  So I tried going around the big ones and through the small ones... well, as it turned out.. the small ones were small but farkin deep!! :-/ :-/

Yea GLi, you're lookin at about $200.  Don't count in it though.. there might be something else wrong that's connected to the steering rack that they'd wanna replace as well.  But just let them check it out first.  It won't take them 10 min.  All they have to do is just put it on a hoist and have a look.

If you haven't done it yet  :D  Just realized that this is like an old thread.  Omg.. getting old.

Have you checked your PS fluid perhaps? May have just sprung a leak and you have no PS fluid, which would explain why it's so hard to turn. Is the ps pump overly noisy too?

Or your PS pump might be leaking as well.  Mine has a little leak.  It's noticable, but not severe.

you should check with the local council laws as they may be responsible for damage to your car.
we are able to do that here providing we have proof,
a photo of the road and the damage to the vehicle.
so if it happend recently get those council SAUSAGES to pay for it.
we can down here in melbourne...

just for fun thets another reason why MELB is better than SYD. :P
