CAN SOMEONE HELP MY BROTHER PLEASE
« on: Sep 27, 2002, 05:30AM »
My bro owns an 86 (i think) pintara, R31 shape, CA20E, RWD, Manual

His problem is when he tries to start the car it will just sit there and make a whirring noise.   :-/

Although when you try to kick it over in gear it will jump forward (or back if your in R)  ???

The story behind this is he was driving along and all of a sudden it just lost power and died on him just completely turned off, and when he tried to start it the previous problem occurred.  :(

Has anyone any ideas about what it is  ??? ???

All help appreciated as he is really annoying me to post this up here  >:(

yeah man..........sounds like your bro's car is sick!
Doesnt turn over? And just stopped while he was driving?
I got no idea.........if the car just stopped while he was driving, it may be electrical? Same happened to me....one of y leads just fell off my distibuter cap.
Also might be the timing chain break? May have snapped.
But........then you say when you kick it over in gear it jumps? So then Its not the timing chain or an electrical problem. I got no idea!

ive heard this happen in a vl commodore engine (nissan), try the crank angle sensor. it sounds exactly like the problem explained. would run, then die straight away.. could be the problem..

Thanx for the help guys after a bit more looking into it (and getting my friend to have a look at it)  :P

we figured out, it is the pin that sits on the crank in between the pulley/timing belt and the crank, is shot so when the car was kicking over the crank was just spinning inside the pulley but wasn't turning the pulley or timing belt  :(

which in turn didn't turn the rotator button or any of the belts but seeing that the gears arent connected up to that part it would still jump when kicked over in gear ;)

So anyways mitza and joczy thank you for your help it really was appreciated
