CA18 G/Box on a CA20e?
« on: Nov 10, 2004, 03:42PM »
Hi everyone ;D
Im wanting to buy a 5spd Box for my Corsair....  and was just wondering if a 5spd Box from a CA18 would fit my CA20?
Reason for this is because there is a hell of alot more CA18 gearboxes on the second hand market than CA20 Boxes...
I dont care bout the price either i just need a replacement ........

Any answers or help would be sw33t as.
Even anyone with a Box for sale would be good...... anything. ::)

It will bolt on.
When you go to buy the box, compare it to your ca20 box. There are 3 types of CA fwd boxes.
The ca16/18 ones look like the early ca20 ones, and are all cable operated.
The late model ca20 ones are hydraulic and the jap import ca18de fwd boxes were the same.

The easiest way to tell the differences is by looking at where the shifter bolts on, and the ca16 box is much smaller.

The ca18 import is your best bet, the ca16 one will blow quickly

OK Cheers for that mate;
So let me get this straight....  There are two CA18de Gearboxes out there , one is cable operated and the other (a jap import) is Hydraulic....  and the shifter on the jap import is different to the "older", but the jap import is the same as late model CA20e gearboxes (shifter and hydraulic).... Is that right?  Sorry mate just want to be sure.

Thanks again for ur help ;D

Correct.
Any hydraulic clutch box is the later ca20/ca18de-jap box and is the strongest.
If you look, you may find a 5 speed from a vg20e/vg20et/vg30 u11 maxima. This will also fit and is slightly stronger i have heard
