brake caliper piston resetting
« on: Dec 11, 2003, 12:05PM »
what is the best way to reset the piston so that i can get the new pads to fit in with enough clearance for the disc.

my mechanic suggested using a large clamp so i did on one side and it did the job,,, but now im on the other side the piston doesnt want to go back as far.

and i cant find anywhere that sells a piston resetting tool for the pintara :-\

thanks,
james

Any piston pusher will do and you  are doing one side @ a time arnt you other wise the other piston will come back out and make sure you take the lid off your resivour as it will alow for more expansion.

you gotta be careful when your doing the pistons as you could stuff it up majorly.. anyway, just got to repco (or similar) and ask for a break spreader or pusher. i've got two of the damn things. they will suit ANY car

sssgtr - worked for me as well, my brakes are workin fine too
And there's not much I can say
But we miss you every day
And I'm bitter 'cause it's unfair
We'll be drinkin' in the sun
Playing music having fun
Cause one day I'll see you there

REMEMBER IT IS DIFFERENT ON THE rear discs! while on the front u push end back in (clamp is good ...on the rear u need to twist them back in with some pliers

the clamp turned the piston as it was pushing it in.
