Quick stupid question about springs
« on: Mar 4, 2008, 09:11AM »
Is it possible to just take the springs off without completely removing the strut? I ask because if u remove the bottom of the stut you need to get a wheel alignment?

So are you able to just remove the top of the strut from the car and then remove the spring then replace it with another one and rebolt back to the car?

Thanx

Ive done it before but its pretty difficult. You have to push the shocker down and lever the spring out. Just pull the strut whole strut out heaps easier.

Are we talking front or rear?

Front you can do this easily as there is 3 bolts at the base of the hub, undoing these plus the three at the top will allow the strut and hub to come out as one. Then you can just undo the top bolt and swap the springs over that way.

Rears are a bit tricker because of the way the parallel links work.

I thought the rear hubs are welded to the struts.

Removing the rears shouldn't put the alignment out.
