clarification on these "chips" for flat spot
« on: Sep 8, 2009, 10:01AM »
hey people,
I have searched!!!! alot of info and threads on flat spots on the KA24 but,
The most common answer is the stage 2 or 3 "chip". Ive had a bit of a look, and seen these, but on that garageII site, dont know if I missed it but see it for U12's and not u13's! is there a difference? (Im used to RB motors and BP motors - know nothing bout these!)

my u13 has major flat spotting and its just freakin annoying!

Is there any other known method besides this "chip?" that can resolve this?
Like changing leads, spark plugs, fuel filter?

All thats done to mine is a cold air feed and k & n pannel filter, sweet FA really!

So I guess,
first of all - would doing those things (leads/plugs/fuelfilter) help? or am I just to go straight for the chip?

Cheers

the only way i have been able to reduce the flat spot (but not eliminate it) without a re-tune is to liberally apply some carby cleaner to the throttle body and intake.. although its not gauranteed.

as the person that tunes the chips, i can tell you first hand that the problem is the standard fuel and timing maps.. right where the flat spot is there is a drastic increase in fuel and a real ordinary spot in the timing map.. this combined causes the flat spot.. so if you really want to eliminate the flat spot, a chip is the best way to go.. and no, i'm not saying this because i tune the chips, i'm saying this because before i learnt how to tune ecu's i tried everything i could think of to remove the flat spot.

i have U13 chips but there has never been a real interest in them.. my thoughts as to why this is is that you need an extra daughterboard for the chips to interface with the U13 ecu and people are simply too tight to fork out that extra cost - which these days is only an additional $90 or so. i guess it doesnt hurt to throw them up on garage11 and see if anyone buys one.

Thanks Noss,
Appreciate your reply - thanks!

OK - so the chip is around $120 plus the $90 for the daughterboard yep?

And from reading other threads, any auto-electrician can install them?
Might see if Unigroup can do it for me :D

Cheers,
Chris

I dont think its too tight... for me its just too lazy.  I mean I have to get the two bits from different places.  Plus the website lables them as SR20 daughter board... you have to read almost the whole thing to see it works in the KA24DE.
I dont know of anyone that has one for their U13.

The link if anyone wants to know what to look for.

I'm pretty sure noss only supplies the chip, you will have to get the daughter board from somewhere else, not logical for noss to put down $300 on daughter boards if he doesn't even know if they will sell.

It is totally worth it so you can get rid of the flat spot and add things like bigger AFM, cams etc.

i could add the cost of the daughterboard to the chip and then i'll purchase the daughterboard on your behalf and install the chips in the board, then you just get the board installed

hows that sound? payment would be upfront of course, because yes, as mentioned by colby, i had people asking me to purchase the daughterboard before they paid me for everything, i'm not going to do that.

you'd be looking at about $250 all up for stage 3 with stock afm.

stage 3 KA24DE chip:

http://www.garage11.com.au/products/antrx.com-U13-Bluebird-and-Altima-KA24DE-stage-3-chip.html

edit:
$245 which includes the plms daughterboard. the daughterboard is a really good budget option for n/a vehicles as with an n/a tune you will never change it again (unless you put compression through the roof)

i'm taking no profit from providing the plms board, its $106 delivered to me for the board, so that makes it $139 for the tune.

there is an additional charge of $25 for a different afm.

nah thats wicket Noss, cheers - I'll be in touch over the weekend mate - appreciate it :)

oh, when you say charge for the different afm, I'll be using the standard one, so there is no need to change that?

Cheers!

nope no change.. you pick 'standard' from the drop down box in the g11 store.

the pricing should be pretty much in line with the ka24e chips.

Im sure he could tune a stage 3 to run on unleaded, same as the ka24d ones.
