Leaking passenger side driveshaft seal
« on: Feb 26, 2009, 05:42PM »
My U13 SSS has one issue, a leaking passenger side driveshaft seal.

Now, my old man spoke to nissan today.  The older mech he spoke to told him its a common fault on the U13's, leaking from the passenger side.

Apparently the shaft wears, damages the seal, then leaks oil, then gearbox needs rebuild if you don't keep the oil level up (dirr!!).

Anyone else heard this or had a similar issue?

Well, I have replaced this seal myself... $22 from nissan.

Was a slight prick, as the circlip was quite loose and made it a bit of a pain when re-fitting the shaft.

Leak is all gone however.

ye same seals as u12

it probably leaks from that side first due to the pressure of the driveshaft trying to straighten it's self under power putting side pressure on the seal

               just a guess tho 8)
NO! it's NOT a fucking SR20!!

The LHS seal usually leak because the diff bearings on that side wear, due to the gearbox oil not being changed regularly, and particles getting into the roller bearings. To check, see if you can move the drive shaft laterally, (up and down) adjacent the seal. If you can, no seal replacement will fix the oil leak. The bearings are under preload, and there should be no side movement. If there is movement, it's a strip down of the gearbox and diff.

Hope this helps.
