the auto fans on my sons 1990 pintara cut in very late when the needle is high up on the guage, it gets pretty hot at times, is there a sensor that can be replaced? thx Gus

It could be the sensor... first of all, KA engine or CA?
On KA the sensor is on drivers side of inlet manifold near the top.  It's easy to change.

My guess is that the relay for the low temp fans has gone.
The fans have two stages, the first comes on at a lower temp then the high speed ones come on hotter.  So maybe the relay for the first stage needs replacing?

Ok thanks for your info, I'll check relays, i take it they're under the bonnet somewhere, something to do on the weekend instead of drinking beer :)

Fans wouldn't work at all if a fuse was gone.
