You can run 116 octane C16 race fuel if you really want too.
Higher octane fuel is generally slower burning and reduces the likelyhood of pinging.

Im not terrably sure but i believe that there is such a thing as "to much" for example i think plane fuel is 140 oct & ive heard that would be more then enough to cook your car, not sure though.

"Plane" fuel is about 106-108 octane and is refered to as avgas. You can fill up with it at calder or moorabin airport if you REALLY want, it's about $2-$3 a litre.
There is no such thing as pure octane, it is a property of fuel. Those octane boosters are an additive, hence fuel is needed or the car wouldn't run.

yeah, my old datto1600 had 11.5:1 compression & wouldn't run on anything but straight avgas. by the way it is illegal to run avgas in your street car in nsw. but not sure about other states

Just advance your timing a bit further than stock if your going to run really high octane fuel. Last weekend i put 2 bottles of booster in a 2/3 tank of opti and i noticed it a little.

I would not do it, like i said ive heard it fu*ks up your car, not your engine, but your sensors & emission equip etc. Maybe im wrong but thats the drift i got from the skyline club *shrugz* if you want go over there & search for the thread. Oh and it's not legial to buy any way... dono about all the states, but at least a few don't allow it.

as far as i know it is illegal for suppliers to sell avgas if you can't prove your using it to fly an aircraft  ::).they face big fines.

Sammy, I'd strongly recommend you not run it on avgas. Our cars are not designed for avgas. Consistent use of avgas will probably lead to significant clogging of spark plugs and oxygen sensors, not to mention another hundred things on top of that.

Read this:

http://www.vhrr.com/general_articles/Avgas.htm

"It is now an offence in Australia to add lead, or any other prohibited substance, to motor fuel or to use leaded fuel, (other than for aviation) – maximum penalty $110,000!!!"  ::)

I run BP Ultimate 98 in my R31 all the time, have done for the past year nearly now. Maybe costing a little more than most conventional fuels, it makes the car run cooler, start easier, and idle smoother. With the timing in the stock location, you shouldnt notice an increase in power. Just when the timing is advanced (My timing is stock 15BTDC, now advanced to 20BTDC) the higher octane levels prevent or lessen the chances of detonation. I wouldnt bother wasting your money unless you were going to the track. BP Ultimate and a bottle of octane boost should theoretically increase the octane level in your tank to about 100 RON.

Nahh i definately notice my trx has more guts running on premo even without adjusting the timing... i always thought that our ecu's adjusted a small amount to the type of fuel that u put in. I found out not long ago that our cars were designed 2 runb on 88ron fuel... or sumtin like that... it was in the high 80's anyway.. thats heaps of hidden power waiting 2 b tappd into!

Oh so true, i totally agree with you!

Normal pump fuel is rated between 88-82 or something? And i think Primo is 92/94ish? And Ultimate/Optimax is 98. I notice power increases in my parents cars without touching the timing also. They are new cars too.

Um...premium fuel is always between 96-98 octane.
regular unleaded is 91 octane.

TRX adelaide, get the spanner and advance that timing  ;D

Spare a thought for us poor old Taswegians who cannot get any 98 octane fuel in the state (other than for drags etc.)  Pisses me off hardcore!!  >:(   Our 'premium' fuel from any servo(BP, Shell..) is a max of 95....suxs huh!

Tobes.
