CA20DE, but of course i would say that :D

The best nissan powered vehicle i have been in was powered by a RB30DET-NEO.

Yesterday i helped a mate wire his datsun bluebird wagon which has a fj20e. twin dell'orto sidedrafts and a modified a12 dixxy. It ran with no exh manifold as it needs modifying, but it was mean!

well by nismo i assume u mean they're goin to start selling "crate engines" , where by they're only selling engines not cars, and if so then that could be for r33's,and 32's aswell. also though it doesn't really matter much to most people , chances are those engines would be stroked out rather then bored out as mentioned as they could simply use there own stroker kit which i believe was already 2.8litres....

also on the topic of striker kits for the rb26,there are already many around 2.7,2.8,and 3.0lt, but one point i'd like to make is that the fastest gtr on street tyres in the world currently uses a 2.6liter setup, and produces as much power as any other modified rb26 i've heard of (including the one in hks's drag car)

hold on
There's no such thing as an RB30DET NEO.

Unless it's an RB30 with an RB25DET NEO twin cam head on it?

what sort of car was it?

The block and internals were from a r31 rb30e, the head is the later model r33 rb25de neo
its a bolt on, you just have to modify the block for the oil drain from the vvt pulley. on the earlier rb25de heads you dont have to mod a thing, they are slower tho as they have smaller ports.

The r33 onwards heads for theh rb25de/det are the same castings as the gtr head.

It also had a rb20det exh manifold on it with a t51 equavilent sized turbo

The rb30 block is 40mm taller than the rb25/26 block so there is much less stress on the pistons and rods.

Oh, and it was in a mazda b2000 ute :P

actualy there's more stress on the pistons and rods for equivilant engine speeds, the percieved advantage is that with the larger capacity it doesn't need to rev as hard to make the same power....so there would be less stress due to the lower revs.....for absolute top end power though a larger stroke isn't always an advantage!!

There's no such thing as a Neo engine from an R33. ;) Neo specification is R34 only.

It was probably an R33 head as they have VCT as well, the different between R33 engines and R34 Neo engines is that among other things the VCT is intermittent on R33 engines, and on R34s it is constant. On both of them the VCT kicks in at about 4,700rpm and above. The R34 head also has a slightly smaller inlet manifold (apparently better for torque), top feed injectors and a higher overall flowing head I'm told.

dont know too much about the nissan lineup, but i do know it bugs the crap out of me when the honda boys say 'so.... you gonna put a sr20det in that thing?'

.........

so if i did ever come up with enough money and gumption for a swap itd have to be ca18det or some such. not that thats ever likely to happen.

i have been in, ka24e, ka24de, qg18de, qr25de, vg35de (is that what 2001 maximas are?), vg30de, sr20de, and those twin cams that came in sentras...  i mean the 2001 maxima was obviously the most powerfull but i like the qr25de because of the 6 speed tranny.  the vg30de was surprisingly smooth and powerfull.

I love my RB20DET! ;D

i love the rb20det also, partialy because of it's bargain peformance prospects(400hp for 7-8g including engine), and patialy because i love engines that do more with less so to speak....

in terms of the two engines differing from the rb26 in a number of characteristics, obviously this is true(though many of the differences arn't positive, such as the extra engineering that went into the rb26(particularly the sump, head, and the ancilary parts)), but the rb25 probably has more in common with the rb26 then you realise(atleast once you start getting serious with modifying it)....
as when you start seriously modifying it surely your bound to fix the short cummings it has in comparison to the 26(atleast you would if you had any brains), because when it comes down to it the blocks are very similar(same bore aswell as the same spacing between the centres of each cylinder), which basically means that with equivalent heads, piston, rods, cranks(Stroke),sumps, turbos, ect they have the same power making potential.....
infact for an absolute power making potential(without de stroking the rb26) the rb25 may even have a slight advantage in that it has a shorter stroke, though yet to be proven(or even shown to be close to the truth).....but hopefully time(and prehaps nutcases like me) will tell and we may find out once and for all how much potential the other two have!! :P

IMHO, the RB series engines aren't shit compared to the VH41DE/VH45DE/VK45DE nissan V8's; for an engine that started life as NA, when turbo'd/sc'd, that can withstand absolute bullshit power levels.
Rumour has it the VH45DE can withstand 700hp at the fly boosted, on standard internals with correct tuning.
It can also be bored/stroked out to over 6.0L.
;D

700hp from standard internals aint particularly impressive from a 4.5lt(even though it was originaly na), a 2jz can handle 900hp on standard internals , and an rb26 ....650-700hp, sure it has lower compression but it's also not much over half the size :P, the bottom line is that the rb26dett is the most rigourously engineered engine ever to be seen in a nissan road car(that's not saying most hi tech, just simply how thoroughly they engineered it)

What about the ultra rare RB28-XX - only 98 made, found in the Nismo 400R. Essentially a bored out (or stroked) RB26DETT with bigger turboes and a few other Nismo goodies!
His: 2001 Audi S4 biturbo quattro 6sp, Nogaro Blue/black leather recaros, microsilver trim, bose 10sp, SSAC 2.5" twin turboback, RS4 rear sway, 25% tint

Hers: MY99.5 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro GP Edition AVANT 5-sp, phantom black, black leather buckets/walnut/sunroof, 2.5" D&T Turboback, K04-015, N75J, 710N DV

Bro driving: 1990 Nissan Pintara TRX 5sp Red, 16" Rozzis, Lukey 4-2-1 ext, 2.5" full exhaust, hi-flow cat, cone cai, stg 3 chip,  low Kings, GT Gas shocks, Urethane bushings, slotted front rotors, 398000k and still going strong; 0-100 in around 7.2-7.4 seconds
