What would you choose, let's say if money was no object, for your SR20DET, on MAP sensing. Completely stand alone unit.

My Situation:
I have to update my ECU before I get a canary.

It currently has a very old, crude EMS that is just not working out.

I would have easily been persuaded to go Nistune, except for the fact that the EMS is not piggy-backing.

There is no factory ECU here, let alone Air Flow Meter, etc.  I haven't got anything to work with, and by the time I do source everything I need to get Nistune happening plus the cost of the latter, I could have just purchased a decent aftermarket standalone system (?)

I'm guessing that it could cost up to 4 grand to get a new system purchased, installed and tuned, given that a decent system costs 2 grand alone?

I would prefer to get all of this done for 2 grand, if possible, however I'm also up for getting the best-suited/cutting edge equipment, or at least knowing what that equipment is.

I need a system that people are familiar with and find easy and quick to tune, yet has a lot of features and is fairly future-proof - just to give me something to play with in future.

Any extra features are fine, as I associate these with customization and fine tune-ability. I'm after spot-on air-fuel and other ratios, nice clear exhaust fumes, nice, smooth ride with no soft spots and jerking and all of that. Basically, the opposite of what I have now.

Recently, I've been getting Sabbadin Automotive to work on my car and they like and sell Wolf. There's the V500 and the new V550 and a new simplified V4X with not too many of the features that I don't need now and probably wont get around to using.

Nevertheless, If I'm going to go all out on a standalone ECU, what's an extra 500-1000 bucks to get the flagship along with all it's crazy possibilities. Unfortunately their (EMS) site seems to be currently hijacked by some malicious outfit so I can't get much more info.

Anyway, there are other workshops such as RE Customs, Springy motors etc. that specialise in other brands. So, I'm happy to look into other products that are equally as good if not better, for a similar price or lower price.

What I'd love to know is whether there happens to be a standalone ECU that indisputably works best with the SR20DET, especially, say on a bluebird, using MAP sensing?

Even if you wouldn't spend the money on it, are there any ultimate/dream systems you like or even good value ones? The third category would be most commonly understood systems by tuners. The fourth category would be all of the above - Pls lemme know. There are just too many products out there.

On the dream topic... there's DTAfast just because of that http://www.dtafast.co.uk/SXDash.htm 'SXwheel' - I need a new steering wheel anyway. Yes, I know it's illegal and overkill. I still want it.

cheers

My Autronic EMS is a MAP sensor based unit and works really well.

However, I did not wire the loom or tune any part of the ECU... so I really don't have any idea how much work it might be.

Nowdays, an Autronic SM4 would be the unit you would probably buy and have fitted (if you went Autronic). There is a wealth of support for this ECU in Melbourne if you know where to look as it was developed down here and is still being developed in Melbourne as far as I am aware.

Awesome infor Budgie, thanks... just so happens that Springy motors specialise in Autronic and are agents... and I kinda have family connections there, so this should work out well! Sounds perfect

Mine has been tuned by Joe at Beninca Motors, who I found to be excellent.

They look like they know their stuff... did you buy the unit through them too and if you don't mind me asking, how much did you get the ecu for?

how dramatic was the improvement over what you previously had?

ECU came with the GTiR motor I put into my car.

It was poorly tuned when I got it (autronic was part of the engine package).

Drove it for a while poorly tuned, then once Joe got to it the car made 160awkw on his dyno @ 10'ish psi.

I think alot of the other guys on here would attest to how much better a car is once its been properly tuned by someone who knows what they are doing!
