Yes! about time.

It's disgusting to think, when we had Group A, the same series in Japan was about the same level as us, the Ford/Holdens had a bitch, decided to race 70s technology for 10 years straight while Japan powered on with the scene, now look at their GT500 series........We could have been on that same level  :-\

If only there was no "v8" class. Just some sort of power restriction or something...HSV-010 > all.

Toyota make a pretty mean V8, and still having production in Australia... it would be a wise move for them to pump some cars into the competition.

Sometimes I think it would be much better having no V8 class, basing it on power/weight, its basically restricted that much at the moment.

What V8 sedans do Toyota have on the AUDM?

-EDIT-

Just read the article... the cars are still going to be 'blueprint' category cars - so basically the same chassis with a different motor and body panels.

mmmmmmm

i might start watching it.

I'd say it'd be an obvious move for toyota to field a racecar that looks like an Aurion..

the issue is that Ford and Holden are losing ground on the big sedans... so wouldn't it make sense for them to start focusing on smaller mid sized cars? return of the Torana perhaps? RWD Ford Mondeos?

Apparently the big boss at FORD USA has said it is stupid for them to have so many different models in different countries and the Aussie FALCON could be gone within the next 5 years.

Worked Falcon> Worked Fugly Taurus!! lol. Mondeos are not bad though I'd still rather see the Worked Falcon with their own engine like the V8 Brutes. Hopefully this will encourage AUS Engineering to work double time.

Its a shame that the Falcon may go, no I'm not a diehard be all end all fan but seriously the I6 is friggin awesome.

Through all this it would be nice to see what, if they get involved, Honda pull out seeing as they are NA Freaks!!

meh.. ford taurus is so much hotter than the falcon now.. see:

new taurus with twin turbo 6 > falcon

although saying that.. this is a current taurus, already looks a bit like current falcon to me.

Lol didn't realise that the Taurus was changed so much.. still think of the original Fugly version. That second pic looks more Mondeoish with a hint of the new FG?

If the Japs/Euros/ did not make a new engine and were to use something currently available.. thoughts on what engines that would be?

Another article

http://www.carpoint.com.au/news/2010/prestige-and-luxury/mercedesbenz/c63/exclusive-mercedesbenz-eyeing-v8-supercars-18598

QUOTE FROM THE ARTICLE

Quote
Under these changes Mercedes-Benz would be able to use its already developed DTM 4.0-litre DOHC V8. That unit is believed to capable of producing up to 447kW not too far shy of the current V8 Supercar engines from Holden and Ford that are believed to be tuned to 484kW.

On Topic still haven't seen any new developments.. can't wait for this to roll out.. side note Ford Australia posted $13 Million Profit.

Quote
Ford Australia posts $13 million profit
BARRY PARK
May 6, 2010

It’s only a modest profit but Ford Australia is back in the black after a tough year.

Ford Australia has shrugged off one of the blackest years in its history, today posting a modest $13 million after-tax profit for the 2009 calendar year - or about $130 for each car it made here.

The positive result follows a four-year run of red ink for the car maker, which in 2008 lost $274 million after buyers fled from new-car showrooms in response to the global financial crisis.

Revenue from sales last year fell by $200 million to $3.1 billion, but Ford Australia chief executive Marin Burela said efficiencies in the company’s Australian car-making business and a focus on “profitable volumes and profitable vehicles” had helped the company make what amounted to a $287 million turnaround.

Ford built about 7000 fewer Falcon family cars and Territory soft-roaders at its Broadmeadows-based manufacturing facility after changing its production process to ensure each car rolling off the line had a buyer waiting in the showroom. Total production for the year was 99,279 vehicles.

Mr Burela said the car maker decided in October 2008 to have an “absolute laser focus” on its inventory of cars sold in Australia, and this had helped the company become cash-flow positive over the last 12 months.

“The manufacturing costs of our products are down, efficiencies are up, and at the end of every month we have nothing left over,” he said.

He said the company had also used its cash to pay down debt and grow its cash reserves.
Mr Burela said the small profit had not come at the cost of research and development of new products, which had increased by $55 million over its 2008 expenditure.

He said Ford Australia was also trading positively so far this year, and had introduced overtime at its plant for the last three months of last year to meet a growing demand for its locally made cars. Ford Australia’s parent company was the only US-based car maker to not extend its hand out for a government bailout after the global credit crunch struck in 2008, sending rivals including Chrysler and General Motors into bankruptcy.

Ford posted a $US2.1 billion profit in the US for the first quarter of this year.

Local rival Holden, meanwhile, posted a $210.6 million loss for calendar 2009 — the fifth run of red ink at the Red Lion in as many years

Thread revival.

Quote

Nissan have finally lifted the lid on the V8 Supercar that they hope will power them past a sea of Holdens and Fords in next year’s championship.

Star drivers Todd and Rick Kelly will run four of the Nissan Altimas next year after two decades of Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore dominance.

Powered by a 32-valve, quad-cam Nissan VK56DE engine, the Nissan Altima will also be joined on the grid by AMG Mercedes cars under the competition's new rules.

I bolded the important part. Actually an engine from their development and not reliance on the same Chev engine that Ford/Holden use. Opens up for some interesting times.

Yup, now just think that the factory car released to the general public will have more power than a Nissan v8 super car.

They had to down stroke these motors from factory to adhere to the v8 super cars rules and regulations to match the power of the boats (ford/Holden)

Mercedes Line up

Quote
Erebus Motorsport has unveiled its brand-new Mercedes-Benz E63 AMGs at a launch event in Sydney Olympic Park this evening.

All three of the team’s entries for Lee Holdsworth (IRWIN Racing), Tim Slade (HHA Racing) and Maro Engel (SP Tools Racing) were unveiled at the cocktail function.

The Erebus E63′s feature an aggressive V8 Supercars bodykit, sporting the company’s own variant of the end-plate rear wing designs seen on the new-generation Ford Falcon FGs and Holden Commodore VFs.

The Australian GT Championship squad has taken over the Stone Brothers Racing operation this season after sealing a Customer Sports deal with AMG in Germany.

While granted a license to use Mercedes-Benz badges on the cars, the Erebus team receives no direct support from Mercedes-Benz Australia.

The cars are powered by a bespoke 5.0 litre V8 Supercars version of the Mercedes-Benz M159 engine seen in the company’s SLS GT3 race cars.

The Mercedes-Benz V8 Supercars will make their first public appearance on Saturday at Sydney Motorsport Park.

I am disappoint.

Neither the Mercs or the Nissans even got anywhere near a podium finish in Adelaide on the weekend?

I reckong they have a grace period of at least 4 races to get their shit together, lol.

Ha Ha fair call.

They have a while to go tuning/setting up before I reckon they will be at their A game. I do know some of their cars had an issue with the drivers footwell etc overheating resulting in some melted shoes and burnt feet!

Sucky that Nissan and Merc have to detune their cars as well but oh well.

Flipside is the footage you can hear you can hear the differences between the Pushrods and Quadcam mo fos!

Channel 7 better get their act together with footage and consistency!

Adelaide was a bloody good weekend. I was in the Clipsal box next to the podium above the pits where the clipsal girls spend most of their time.  It was great to hear the difference in the cars. And i was was proud to wear my Nissan hat.

I agree with SSS, give them half a season and it should get entertaining.

Volvo will once again try to change its staid image and bring an end to Volvo jokes by joining the V8 Supercar racing series in 2014 -- even though it does not sell a V8 car locally.

The Swedish brand’s arrival brings the number of car makers competing in the Australian V8 championship to five, joining Holden, Ford, Nissan and Mercedes-Benz.

Unlike the Mercedes deal which is privately funded, the Volvo race program is being backed by the factory, albeit paid for by Volvo Australia. Volvo will develop a V8 in Sweden especially for the race series even though it no longer offers a V8 in its passenger car range.

Melbourne-based Garry Rogers Motorsport, formerly a Holden-backed operation, will run the two-car Volvo team. There are no plans to change the current driver line-up Scott McLaughlin and Alex Premat, the team says. Volvo Australia said it is a “multi-year” deal but would not disclose how exactly how many years.

When asked if this would finally put an end to Volvo jokes -- after earlier racing campaigns, which included the late racing legend Peter Brock, failed to break perceptions -- the boss of Volvo Australia Matt Braid said: “I think we’re already there. That heritage has disappeared. I think there is some residual in older age groups … but times have changed and I’m sure the V8 series will enhance it.”

Volvo said the racing campaign shows the company is “competing on the track and in the marketplace”, although its sales are down 10 per cent in a market that

is up by 4.5 per cent so far this year. Not having a V8 to sell to the public will not backfire on the brand, says Volvo, “because there isn’t a racing series in the world that’s tied to production cars these days”.

The rule-changes to V8 Supercars this year mean the race cars no longer need to technically resemble their road-car cousins. The formula appears to be working. Last season four drivers from two teams shared 30 race wins. So far this year eight drivers from five teams have shared 19 race victories.

Volvo's announcement coincides with Volvo’s unveiling of a high-performance sedan powered by a turbocharged six-cylinder engine, called the S60 Polestar and valued at $109,950.
