91 U12 Pintara problem...
« on: Jan 16, 2011, 11:56PM »
Hi.

I have a 91 U12 Pintara and have a steering problem. I was told its the steering rack but want to know if anyone else has had a similar problem.

Once the car starts to heat up after driving it around for a bit, every time I turn the steering wheel (even a little bit) there is a clicking type noise. Well its like a clicking noise.

I went to the mechanic I usually go to and he said its nothing to be worried about. The car is still drivable. The noise will just be annoying. But it will need to be fixed eventually. Mind you this mechanic replaced my transmission in it and left a couple of bolts off the mount and the engine almost fell out of the bloody thing. Not to mention there were a few other things he dodgied up on it.

So is there anyone who might know if it is the steering rack or the gaiter? I am not mechanically minded so I wouldnt know.

Thanks in advance :)

Sounds like CV Joints. They click whenever the wheels aren't facing straight ahead. Especially if the click gets faster the faster the wheels go (as opposed to the engine.
I'm so far behind at work, I'm almost retro!

Thanks SSS. If thats the case and it is the CV's I am going to be pissed off. Spent $240ea on getting them replaced last year and the problem still continued.

Will take it to another mechanic and get it checked out.

Lol Deathcore... dont forget I am female and not all that mechanically minded haha.

I have a mechanic mate who is going to look at it in the morning and see if he can pin point exactly where the noise is coming from.

I should have added in the beginning that not only does it make the clicking noise when turning the steering wheel it also makes the noise when stationary and when you "bounce" on the passenger side of the bonnet. Only after its been driven though. Doesnt make the noise when 1st thing of a morning. Could it still be the CVs

Shock?
dose it do it if you oscillate the steering wheel back and forth between the 10 and 2 position? (with car stationary) that would (most likely) indicate balljoints. If its only when the suspension is been moved on 1 side then it's likely the shock. bounce the car and then let go, dose the car bounce more then twice on it own or dose it come to a quick stop when you push down?
I drive like i screw..... illegally =D... wait O.o WHAT?? O.O
